digger... got one in the rack at the moment, in bloody top nick too. It's not mine but I surf if now and then. Gunther messed up the fin templates and it suffers because of that, but I still just love walking it down the beach and surfing it on a hot summer's day. :D

Solid TOS type waves.. Most of what i have read is that they are for longer down the line waves.

sounds like a awesome plan  and u got the experts in mind build it

i'm not all together sold on this channels only for good waves

i've had a fair few channel bottom dahlbergs that went unreal in average beachies :!:

he stop making them cause it was cheaper build concaves

not cause the design had no merit

I once had a daniels six channel clinker, it was beautiful, worked magic in solid down the line waves, but I had no trouble with it in average beachies as well, I feel so ashamed I let that that board go, such a shame

I just had a thought about channels/clinkers in general. Water doesn't stick to hard edges and releases off these surfaces, where curved surfaces attract water and make it stick and curve off it (place a spoon vertically under a running tap and watch how far the water bends off as it leaves the spoon).

Clinker channels have very hard edges, so as you put weight back onto the tail and build pressure around the channels some of the water would be redirected by the hard flat edge on the channel wall much like a fin redirects water to create hold and thrust. The rest of the water that doesn't get redirected would just release and "slip" off the hard edge at the tip of the wall, getting caught in the next channel or slipping off entirely once up to speed.

Does this sound right, or have I had too many coffees for my own good?

Can JD and other shapers share their opinions on this?

Thickness carries to the rail. Rails are pretty boxy.

Went in and saw al byrne yesterday. Really nice guy, explained different aspects of his boards and what he thinks works best. ordered a 6'6 channel as a stepup/semi gun for an upcoming o/s trip and for the points. Walked in pretty keen on a rounded pin but he felt that the swallow was the go so trusted him and went with that. He said that they pins sorta have a mind of there own and arent as responsive.

Had a couple of Tony Dempsey channel bottoms that went unreal, a 6'4" and a 6'8". Would love another if I got the chance.

Personally, I didn't find any issue in bumpy waves above and beyond what I would have had on a single to double. I also found that I liked smaller fins in general on both boards.

Yeah frothing for it to come. A few mates don't understand why im getting channels, reckon i should be in the 80's haha. I've never had one but most people say they're fast and go well in barrels which is what im keen for

Reviving the six shooter thread, hows everyone going with their six shooters?

What likes and dislikes, and which are the classics still being ridden and treasured?

Okay as a daily driver or prefer a little more size and grunt?

Six is a nice number...

I just picked up from Gumtree a Gunther Rohn 6'5 sixer, bright orange all over! Originally shaped for Steve Shearer (or so the guy I bought it off tells me). I believe Steve has been know to haunt these fourms. Yet to ride it but will keep you posted....
