I know mate, sorry bout that but it was outta my hands, if it( some parts of the boards construction ) was done when it was meant to be, it'd be cured and ready now, sorry but I actually had to harrass someone to ensure it was done in time so you can collect when up this way.....I know it sucks to have a newy and cant surf it, especially when on hols and time to surf...my apologies mate.....but she sure looks and feels noice to me, think it'll do the job for ya.... 8)

When I got my first PU custom from Grant Miller I wasn't in such a hurry and didn't pick it up until he said it was ready to surf.

I'm getting my board delivered over the next couple of days.

How do you visually tell that the board needs more time to cure? Is it even a visual indication? Or is it like testing a piece of fruit?

I was going to ask Mark in an email but thought there could be a few punters later on down the track that would ask the same question.

Also remember reading somewhere that a nice warm room out of direct sunlight helps things along... fact or fiction? Either way i'm sure it makes the room smeller sexier than my cheap everyday deoderant ;)

You will read a lot of contradictory advice when asking different people about curing time. To be safe I would leave it 1.5 to 2 weeks after it leaves the glassers.

Thats the safe bet, even though some people will tell you that you can surf it a lot sooner, why risk it?

I definitely don't want to risk it.

Here's what i'm thinking for example,

It's pumping overhead to overhead and a half... what i'd call 4-6ft, touchie subject i know ;)
The board's been out of the glassing factory about 12 days... not quite 2 weeks... don't want to surf the 6'2 dominator because I have this wicked looking speed machine all shiney and new in my room just begging to be surfed... is there something to look for to make sure you're not surfing it too early... I'd rather be on the wrong board for one more surf than f#@k my glassjob.

mate, leave it a minimum of 1 week after you get it, longer would be better but that would be my minimum cure time...and leave it in the cover in a warm spot...no scientific proof but definitely seems to work for me... if you surf it early, try to avoid forcing the knees into it when you duck-dive....

A lot of the shop guys will tell you to leave them 7 days after the actuall "glassing" of the board. I like to leave my boards two weeks after I've glassed them although sometimes I don't get the hot coat on for a few days after actuall glassing.

On saying that, once they're are hard they're hard. And leaving them to long won't make any difference...but, knowone wants to snap a new board so I would go with two weeks after glassing or one week after receiving the board. I've ridden a few boards only a week after I've finished them and had no problems...but I also didn't get smashed in the shore break!

Enjoy!

And here i was thinking it was a great idea to take 3 weeks off work to take full advantage of the Autumn surf.... what a hoax.

Anzac Day last year, everywhere was cranking... good chance it'll be flat this year...

Looks like some swell's on the way :) might head a little but north to get away from the Sydney crowds.
