I have the medium sized fins, so far I think the back fins maybe a little big as I prefer the turns to be a little looser but I haven't taken the board out on any waves bigger than 3-4 ft so I'll hold my judgement until I get some good sized swell. I have a set of QPC-5's that I can try later as well.

If I were you I'd put the rear PC-5's to replace the rear Simons... Do it now!

Surf in Merimbula was average last week but gave it a run on Sunday & loved it, late drops are a breeze & it turns on a dime but need some good sized swell to really test it.

What are the other dims on that smoker. What do you weigh? How old are you? And do you surf like Ringmaster (poor), Pridmore (better than average) or Wanto (hes got Kelly worried)?

Dimensions are 6'4" x 20 1/2" x 2 3/8", I'm 34 & weigh about 85kg but seem to be losing a bit of weight recently since I started riding to & from work again on my bike (90km round trip). I would say I'm above average in surfing ability, like everyone I wish I could get more time in the surf.

New Josh Dowling QUAD. 6"3 ....20/1/2 x 2/3/8 single to double concave . Groveller for 2-3ft days where the normal shorty isnt as much fun . Got M-7 FRONTS and G1000 in the back for starters and see how we go.
Board feels great and curves look sweet. See how it goes tomorrow.

Verdict is in after a few hours in 3-4ft clean lefts this morning. This thing flies. Instant speed of the mark is great . I havent felt this much squirt before in a board. I guess thats a combo of the 4 fins and the wider plan shape. Used the M-7 & G1000 combo it seems to be a good mix ,felt like it had the right combo of drive and release.
Loving the few inches shorter board also as you get to your feet and they are straight into the sweet
spot, no shuffling around to find it . My new favourite toy !!!

Sweet looking stix DV8,

I to have been down the new Gen board path as you probably have seen from the Sunova Experience link.

The two boards that I am using at present, a 6' 0" Sunova Nitro, which Josh oversaw the the completion of due to some initial teething problems at Sunova the second board, was a 5'10" Firewire Quadraflex, which I bought for summer. I initially thought the Nitro was a pretty sick board, good flex, great paddle and really loose in quality surf. Compared though, with the firewire, it is heavy, stiff and very unforegiving.

I have already been thinking about my next board being a Josh Dowling custom, it seems they are lighter again.

My whole motivation for getting a Sunova intitially, instead of firewire, was I was more interested in getting a one off custom made for me in consultation with Bert. That never happened. I hope the Josh experience is more like that.

A final note,

is the cost around the same??

Regards

Kelvin

Hey Kelvin,
In my experience the process is as customized as it gets . I probably went over kill with details which meant a heap of emails but replies come back prompt and detailed, just wanted to get it right due to my previous issues with others. And he nailed both boards so all the lead up was worth it .

My boards are a fair bit bigger than yours (6'6 & 6'3 )but they are still weighing in at between
2.5 /2.7kg which feels pretty good to me. If super light and functional is your thing I know he can get them lighter and still strong with the materials.

Price around the same give or take a few dollars for artwork or whether you get Pawlonia timber options etc I think .

All that I know is that early in March, Matthew Perrin who had large investments in Billabong and was also a large investor in Firewire, filled for Bankruptcy due to fail real estate investments. Shorty after that Firewire issued a press release stating that it had no effect to their business. Has there been further developments???

Thanks heaps.

Im only a light weight, 60kgs, but 2.5 to 2.7kgs is light. My 5'10" quad is 2.9 and my Sunova Nitro 3.1, both weigth with the fins on.
