it's a relief to be able to post these pics without comment. often while walking here i feel overwhelmed by longing for this short stretch of beach and rocks and want to tell everyone all about it and my memories of and feelings for it.

...there was an unspeakable beauty in the mornings, the great sun from the sea, such a big, untamed, proud sun, rising up into a sky of such tender delicacy, blue, so blue, and yet so frail...
sorry big tears welled up

when it's still orange it seems as though you can see it all happening in there... I look directly into a great big sunrise. If there are clouds I still get turned on when it's late even if it's partial because of the clouds. Then it's white and fully blinding and I have to avert my eyes, so miss out even taking a partial squiz during the day. It nourishes everything on earth, us too!

And he didn't mention the blue gradations, how you can see such distances!!!!! into space, at the dark blue??? parts, and the icy light parts that from memory, I don't have a big blue sky in front of me atm, are at the periphery, it's darkest and farthest we can see past our atmosphere looking straight out! oh man and fellow man yippee

But like all unbridled power, treat with the utmost of caution.

was that from the leader? think i remember that pic, was a good swell
mate i remember that swell  got it in a drawer at mums
the end of day light saving, a mate and i were out island and he dropped in on me, i rode straight over the island, he got his pic in a magasine in a boomer, opened right up ,he was in year 11.
we got in and it was 10pm at cronulla train station.

daz mentions (page 6,7) rosco talking about kiama's bay and surfing it at 30ft and fish telling him which way was up etc... i have a mate Ian that talks about that cathedral like wave whenever he gets the chance.
hes an old gong boy and talks of 15 foot waves and big hold downs... guard knows who i'm talking about. we would smile and nod not knowing if he had exagerated his tales very much :D

daz, if your reading this, hope your getting better mate

^^ Not from The Leader Marcus. It's from Tracks - sometime in 1994.

The actual swell was in March, the first week of uni that year and I set a precedent for my future academic performance by bailing uni and going surfing.

hey hearing great stories, I was down kiama a long time ago during a real good swell and found a wave that was really bloody interesting, would love to chat to someone about it from that way but out of respect dont want to post it on here, if anyone would like to pm from that area that is local I have a great yarn to tell. I surfed this place solo and have never seen it break since.
no, Im not a surfer, Im just a garbage man".

hmmm 1986 sure is a long time ago, in the time between then and now you wouldn't even notice 5,000 posts.

that picture wasn't taken in 1986 steve, more like 2002. i was just pretending it was 1986. in regard to hair, i have lots of on top of my head just as my old man still does and da had until a very late age. also i give my head a scratch and drink a glass of water and stare out the window every morning, no moisturiser.

'very hard to see'! 'shitty lighting'! and here i was waiting with bated breath all this time, hardly daring to believe but at the same time sure that salty would come through with the goods, a shot i could print out and put on nan's dressing table alongside her other grandkids' happy snaps, even just one shot, no need for a sequence, of me leaning into a bottom turn or sidling my way through a kind of cutty or going over the falls backwards or bobbing about with my chin up in the whitewater after a wipeout... and come to find out he couldn't even see me out there, despite the comical girth and length of his lens. i thought we realsurfers looked out for each other! so much for that illusion. i'm shattered! crushed! heartbroken! i've had enough. you won't be seeing me around here anymore: this is my last post!

I wish I had my own personal photogragher like you iggy ...  I do catch up with butts fairly regulary but I insist we surf together ...
