Think you got that last bit round the wrong way. If fanning gets 1st in either of the next 2 events he's won no matter what, if he gets 2nd in either of the next 2 events he will beat taj no matter what.

Even if kelly gets 1st in the next 2 events fanning only needs to get 2 5th's to win (which isn't much to ask considering he's been in the top 3 of every event bar one throughout the whole year!).

which is lower than taj's best case scenario (winning next 2)
