Roy's not a fan, but I love the greenough 4a. I have 2, a 9 1/2" ( or 1/4" ), and a 7 1/2". The 7 1/2" was hand made by someone who's been making boards for a fkkukking long time, and is absolutely unreal. I can't speak for those type boards, but I use the 7 1/2" on my longboard ( boo hiss!! ), and it provides as much drive as the 9 1/2" but turns fantastic. Thought it would side slip but it holds in unreal, and loosens up a bloody big board.

ER; why keep it as a single only though ? Was thinking the side bites might come in handy ( more bite for mid face check turns, and more hold in a steeper climb line ala cranking one off the top here and there as the wave permits ) ??

Like its a brick, yes . But I still want "some" sort of more hi-perf/aggressive edge to it (not just all swoop/glide)

For sure add side fins if you're going to do a box anyway, but in my humble experience, i found it hard to get a good combo of side and centre. I don't bother with sides anymore. I do have a beard though, so that may explain that.

Surf it as a single before you start adding fins.
i reckon it will surf fairly long and straight, just slow down a bit

no reason, just meant with a rakey greenough flex fin a single would be cool. putting side plugs in would be a good idea

Ok. It's already got a single, so I will leave it be and proceed as is. And later if I find that either the existing fin sucks and/or I wanna replace it with another single and/or 2+1 I'll cross that bridge if/when I come to it.

that fin looks pretty good anyway, if it feels chunky you could even hand foil it a bit more, and add in side plugs.

it's actually a really nice outline, would go great transferred into a quad fin with a modern foil.

re-shape it Iggs. strip it, give it a haircut and bring it up to date.

Well I won't be reshaping it. And I think it looks ok. But it is what it is. An old shape. I'm not expecting miracles out of it. Curious to see how it goes. If it ends up riding like pig I will sell it. If not I keep it. No biggie. I'm just having fun faffing about with the artwork.

Almost tempted by the 6'4" myself

I've drooled over them quite a bit lately. The eggs for sure. Once I get back in the water I'm treating myself to a newy ( good motivation huh?! ). Hard to go past JD though.

There's no gap in the quiver I'm trying to fill here.
My current boards cover all and anything I require.
This was an impulse buy. wow it's cheap, and damn I'm intrigued!

I was just telling you to ride it before you went to the effort and expense of adding fins and plugs.

FWIW I have/had a few boards with 2+1 setups.
Eggs and small wave boards I like as 2+1 as you can loosen or lengthen the way it surfs dependent on the shape of the waves. Can change to cutaways or different templates.

With the ones for good waves I run as singles, after a lot of experimentation.
I like the widowmaker setup but I found the options a bit confusing and with a single it forced me to draw better and smoother lines.
These days I don't even move or change the fin, I just swap boards.
