Dont they have to pass Australian standards? like in terms of noise, poollution safety etc. it could be a hassle and expensive getting it here then getting it sussed out and proven to be Australian roadworthy

Wanto. You will need a Customs Broker to do the paper work for you. You could do it yourself but it would be a major pain in the arse and would cost you a lot of time to organise importation etc Look on the net or in the phone book for import brokers and get a few different quotes. If it is valued at over $250 aus you will have to pay Customs duties. This is about to change to $1000 aus so enquire about this with any Brokers that you may speak to.

Also don’t import a second hand bike because you will probably have to have it inspected for quarantine ie dirt on tyres and bike etc. This can add significantly to your costs especially if the bike has to be commercially cleaned prior to quarantine releasing it.
