A month Camping with the famalam East Coast - January

Hi folks, looking for a bit of discreet intel on good camping spots for a forthcoming trip with the family in January/Feb 2020 please....

Itinerary is:

- Early January > Sunny Coast
- Mid January > North NSW, maybe Lennox/Byron/Ballina area
- Late Jan > Bit further south, maybe Tuncurry/Seal Rocks etc

We are looking for about a week in the first two areas and a bit less in the third leg of the trip. Travelling in a high top HiAce and happy to mix up big sites, little sites and free spots that are not overrun with feral types (the annoying sort, the old-school ferals are good)

Not looking for waves primarily, it's a more rounded out trip this one with a focus on the 4yr old grom having fun.

Please feel free to DM if you don't want to broadcast anything - discretion is my middle name (well, it's actually William, but you get the gist)

Thanks in advance

Sunny Coast is pretty dire for surf and hot in January.
Aim to be near a headland that provides protection from the northerlies.
The northern end is generally better for that.

Is your HiAce 4wd?

It’s 2wd... was hoping it will suffice!

Yeah, for sure.
Just wondering if you were going to get to one of the islands.

At that time of year I would do Straddie and Yamba rather than Sunny Coast and Byron.

Good shout. Never been to North Straddie, that could be on the list for sure... I'll price up the 4wd options as I think I can shift deposit around.

Spotted a good national park campsite between Yamba and Angourie... Ilharra, I think. Pretty sure we could fit that in.

You don't need 4wd for straddie, unless you want to camp at Flinders. Save the money for the ferry.
