Front shoulder pain.

Can surf, do push-ups, dip[s etc etc but there is pain and swelling.

Seems to be some impingement when I bring my elbow up and arm towards my centreline.

tweaked it putting on a wetsuit top and it's swollen and painful.

Any ideas?

One of the biceps tendons most likely. Can be irritated from impingement and lots of factors add up together when it comes to shoulders. Are your pecs tight? Neck, traps?
I would aim to rest it, relieve inflammation and go and see physio or osteo.

I'd be happy to look at it if you want and run through the shoulder tests.

Sounds good Buddy, I'll PM you.

Neck seems fine, traps, pecs seem ok.....I can do pushups and chins with no worries.

Dips I can feel it.

I imagine fish tacos were involved somehow.

Found this helpful in visualising and understanding the structures involved. They have a lot of good videos on the shoulder.

These pics give an idea on why there is often a cluster of symptoms.
You can see that subacromial impingement can affect the bursa, all of the rotator cuff tendons, and biceps too.

Then there are SLAP lesions too, which can present with a variety of symptoms.

Apparently I've got a spur on my spine where the shoulder blade joins. History of injuries to my left side starting with a fractured collar bone in primary school, car crashes in which the passenger side where I was took the full impact at a round about on one occasion and where I braced myself against impact with my left arm on the wheel on the other. Got pins and needles recurring from that one. Then I fcuked up my arm when the stair gave way at home and I bashed my elbow into the bannister. That screwed me up for a year. Still needs careful treatment. All that on top of a lifetime spent paddling in rippy surf.

I'm in week 5 of an infraspinatus tear. Crazy nerve and secondary pain in the bicep and forearm. Can't straighten arm. Can't raise arm (currently typing one armed). Sleeping maybe four hours a night. No pain meds helping. Have been to doc six times; physio, acupuncture, voodoo priest. Being injured and in constant pain is crap. I have no idea how long this recovery will be.

Not frozen shoulder batoes?

I'm currently on a frustrating search to work out my own left shoulder problems.
Was thinking impingement with bursitis but now I'm leaning more towards capsular or labral tear.
Pain in the arse.

Yeah - it's weird. No shoulder pain, so they have ruled out frozen shoulder thus far. There was damage to the supraspinatus as well and that's where they think it has come from. Acupuncture has been the only thing to really help. Endone, endep and a range of other drugs didn't do much except make me tired and mixed up.

When it comes good enough to be ready for rehab Baimed in town are genius physios. NRL, A league, NBL players, they've treated everyone. A few surfers there too, in fact there's a signed "thanks for fixing me up" board from Mick fanning up on the wall, among many others.

They even got me back in the water haha

I still go every 3 months

Yeah, my arm went through all sorts of weird shit for about a year. Sitting in a chair could be painful. Elbow would heat up and throb, pins and needles in the fingers, aching shoulder blade. But no real reason for one happening or the other at any time. Still can't wear a wrist watch on that arm.
