Just had the pre-surgeon appointment. Doctor seemed to have no idea. Trying to talk me out of it, saying I should stop surfing or it will just come back.
Not that I now use plugs and tak all the time and hood if it's cold. Never did that my whole life surfing in vic. And now I live in a much warmer climate on the FNC NSW. Said none of that works. Anyway, still going ahead.

Ys it does grow back eventually. Apparently it's easier now to do the operation than when I had it. My hearing was about 80% gone in my right ear for ages but it wasn't a major problem. Then it got up to 90%+ and it really started to have an impact. TV up too high.....couldn't hear anything in a pub or restaurant. After the op my hearing was back to normal. It's grown back a bit now. Cnut of an op in those days.

I've had this issue for years, and I think it's time I did something about it. My right ear is almost totally closed up, and my left not far behind. I've reached the point where anything that goes in (aqua ear, waxsol, etc) doesn't come out. Just got my ears syringed at the docs and they're still blocked days later.

Is there ayone Sydney-based who can recommend a specialist to see re the drilling? Maybe I just need an ENT guy for now to clean it all out first? I assume there's some guys around the NB's making a nice living doing this kind of op

Get an ear syringe first, and use hot water in the shower. Be careful!
There's also stuff at the chemist to dissolve wax that actually works.

Not sure about Sydney, but my ears are pretty much in the same predicament as yours, Ricky and I go to a practice in Byron that does the earwax suction and bulk bills it.

My GP had a look at mine recently and was able to see a slight surfer's ear growth in one but nowhere near needing any surgery. Hopefully I'll be dead before I need drilling.

Yes, Surfers Ear is an exostosis.i.e. Bony growth covering the ear canal.

My ear specialist (I need to wear hearing aids) recommends cleanears (with spearmint oil). The specialist doesn't like syringes.

Which is what needs drilling.
And I reckon Ricky is hoping that's not what he has.

Yeah I know but he also said that they're still blocked.
The syringe they use for removing stuff is normally a big metal one and they don't want to cause any damage so they take it easy, plus they're probably trying to get you out the door in 15 mins. The soft rubber one from the chemist let's you do it slowly with hotter water.

No way I'd be trying to flush my own ears out.
But I'd understand done carefully itd probably be OK.

Have to say too.
I maybe go to the doc twice a year (not counting the skin specialist), but I've never been saddled with one trying to rush me through in 15 or 20 minutes.
The visits probably don't take any more than that most times but my current guy even gave me a QML referral last month dated for March this year so I don't need to make a special visit for it.

When I had surfers ear if the Doc syringes my ear it would just bounce off and spray back out. You could try going mystical with ear candles.

Ok BP, I took your advice like a mad man and got some Doc's Pro Plugs.

Now, the woman in surf shop fitted me as a small. I put em in at home and poured some water over my ear, and it seems like a bit still gets in.

Should it be completely dry or not?!

Don't wanna have to take em back.
