I knew him quite well from Kurrawa Surf Club. He was really supportive as a coach to my daughter. He wasn't a bad bloke but I feel for his boys who are between 4 and 11. They're going to be deeply scarred.

I like how the typically parochial QLD press have claimed as either from the Sunny Coast or the GC. He was from Thirroul and proud of it.

* If this was in tangents I'd probably express this differently

Yeah he had a heart attack. His brother is Darren who's also from Thirroul surprisingly but now that he lives in Tard G land he's also a QLDer. #Thatsinqueensland

Dean's wife was an ironwoman IIRC.
And Darren's daughter, Jordan is a current competitor.

Reen is lovely. She'd be seriously struggling as she was the glue that held them all together.

It's cruel that people who take care of themselves so well can die of a heart attack.

Yeah, that's what happened to my father when I was 18. We were both in the same SLSC. No warning signs.

talking about that with my physio yesterday. there has been a heap of guys I know or read about in last few years who die suddenly
in their 40s from heart attacks and they are generally fit guys who look after themselves. is it that even though they look after themselves, the sheer
stress of decades of high cardio work makes the heart pack it in? I know a lot of older guys who eat shit food, drink loads and do no sport at all and they are fine.

I've often wondered about the stress elite athletes put on their hearts.
My wife is asthmatic and one of the top specialists in Sydney told her that these days more asthmatics die from heart failure than asthma.
Firstly because asthma management is so much better these days and secondly because of the strain their hearts have been put under during attacks over so many years.

Well, I'll bet they're not "fine" but I get your point. Stress itself kills. Few years ago a 50 something bloke from work, keen surfer, regular indo trips, super lean, had a stroke. Last I heard he was wheelchair bound. He was always stressed, no one ever knew why, he was good at his job, but just always stressed and worried about things that everyone one else just accepted as general work crap. Health wise he was fitter than most half his age.

Yeah I would not trust your own anecdotal evidence on this fellas. Heart disease patterns are only revealed through statistical analysis across a big population base.
