Flexibility

Post by channels » Mon May 22, 2017 4:00 pm

After the weekend, starting to realise flexibility and tightness through my hips is starting to impact how i surf.

The fitness is fine, but after not much surf time the last few months, the hips are stiff and the pop up is slow. So for the 1st time in a while, i was pulling back or missing sections. I'm guessing this isnt helped by my cube monkey existence.

So without going full on into a PetuBot yoga, thoughts on how to get the flexibility back?

swissball jacknifes... both strengthen the hip flexors and stretch the glutes/hips.

best bang for buck for electric popups.

minimum effective dose 2 sets of 15 reps 3 times a week.

thats about a 5-10min investment/wk

Why not do actual popups, surely that would be best for doing them?

ive got some bad back issues going on, and really got into the stretching a couple months ago and it makes a huge difference. thought about yoga or pilates was told pilates was way to go but fark paying 15-20 bucks a session. sports doc gave me a few things to do , main one hip flexors, and the other putting the elastic band around ankles and crab walking sideways back and forth to strengthen glutes. also do a bunch of stretches that I got on youtube. search motivational doc. take what you need he goes through loads of things for lower back/hips. get a foam roller as well. roll after you surf keeps everythinh loose and gives myofacial release

I find this yoga sequence good

And these exercises

I try to alternate between them on a daily basis.

Guaranteed to keep you fit and supple for surfing

My daily workout is more honoured in the breach of course

Got my lower back ache back after taking my sons electric bike for a run. Easier to handle since we took the board tax off and lowered the seat but still pretty heavy. I said I wasn’t going to try and get up thebiggish hills around the traps but I did and strained my back again. Flexibility needs work.

So I’ve been using a heavy duty bolster on my back and shoulders lately plus another big cushiony one. Really straightened out my back and I’ve been doing a few stretches to loosen up my hips. Feeling better than I have in ages.
