Re: Kettlebells
Has anyone tried working out with silver-bells, they're supposed to be pretty good for building up your christmuscles.
The moving finger writes and having writ moves on ... now all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel even half a line ... nor all thy tears wash out a single word of it.
Re: Kettlebells
I'm 58 soon and lifted weights all my life, firstly for footy and then just to keep going. Last 12 months my popup has been that split second slower, enough to get me to move further to the shoulder than risk a late drop. Burpees seem to have solved the problem, lots of 'em. I think it's the explosive action rather than the mimicking form of the excercise. I may have been going through the motions a bit with the weights but the burpees force you to put in a certain effort. You're going hard from 1 to 10.

Re: Kettlebells
For weighted chins (or dips if your shoulders can handle), buy a length of chain from Bunnings and a caribiner clip. Loop chain around waist, through weight and clip the ends together (so it's a circle). Same as the rope but no knots involved; we all know knots are not our forte
If you use roman rings instead of a pull up bar it's much easier on your shoulders. You will find your hands naturally sit at about a 45 deg angle (esp for chins - palms facing) rather than the 90deg a bar requires. If don't have rings, a piece of rope or a towel looped over the bar (or tree branch) offers same benefits but additional challenge
Bonus: Apparently chins work your abs as well - if you do them right

Re: Kettlebells
chains, caribiner clips , roman rings.......this all is getting too complicated.
After a 6 week cycle of kettlebell swings 3 times a week (75 reps- no missed workouts) I can summarise the effects.
Started at 16, went up to 18.5, 21.5, 24 kilos.
Big improvement in posterior chain strength, hip drive which manifested as a big upgrade in surfing power through carving turns. Felt a lot stronger in the lower back as well.
Biggest improvement noticed quickly- within the first 2 weeks- then plateaued v. quickly. Didn't notice any extra improvement going to heavier weight.
Body fat: 19, 19, 18.5.
Weight: 73.8, 74, 75.1
Conclusion: big bang for buck. for a total investment in time of around 15mins/week.
