Re: Indo suggestions
If its a family thing its about keeping the wife and kids happy. If your kids are too young to surf then there's not much for them to do outside of Bali.
In Bali the big resorts with multiple pools and child minding are the go if they are young, otherwise its stuff like organised bike rides, rafting, whatever. You'll just have to paddle out to the reefs pre dawn or something.

Quite the pickle you've got yourself into Legion.
The only option I can think of that fits your criteria, is the big white elephant Novotel on the south coast of Lombok.
Somebody on here (maybe Natho?) said they stayed there once and it was mostly empty and surprisingly O.K.
The beaches are quite spectacular along there, and there's waves within easy scooter ride. I think Natho even said they surfed out front.
If you end up somewhere in Oz, I would pick Newcastle over Sydney. No hustle bustle, gets slightly more swell and has a relaxed feel.

Use it to get to Singapore on the way to the snow in Japan

How about a week on the Mornington Peninsula?
You could help Shaun distribute 6 packs of VB to bums dumping rubbish in roadside stops.

All of Indo pretty much sucks as a family destination I reckon. Mrs Cranked also refuses to go there. The whole SE corner is pretty non-functional.

Re: Indo suggestions
what about the families of overweight Aussie bogans you see trolling the streets of Kuta and hanging out in those shitty aussie themed bars? They look like they're having fun.Cranked wrote:All of Indo pretty much sucks as a family destination I reckon. Mrs Cranked also refuses to go there. The whole SE corner is pretty non-functional.

I never leave the bukit, everywhere else is a foreign country to me, I'm just relying on hearsay and rumor as to what goes on elsewhere

Sanur is a bit more civilised than the other side. Nusa Lombongan is nice and laid back with surf, snorkelling etc.

There's some really good diving in Sulawesi.
Temples and volcanoes all over the joint.
I've been there for 3 weeks without a board and had a blast.
Though I wouldn't like to be the family stuck with legion doing tourist stuff if the surf was pumping elsewhere in Indonesia.

Does Bali pass if you don't stay in kuta or seminyak?

I always think Bali is safer from a terrorist attack than say Sumatra or Lombok or Java for that matter.
