Board for Indo

Post by mrpotato » Mon Jan 25, 2016 12:26 pm

I'm heading over to Indo for first time ever and trying to work out which size/type of board to take. I normally ride a 6'7" Miller V-Skate or a 6'10 SA Big Toe board which has little rocker. Most people I've spoken to have said to take a board around 2 inches longer than board I usually ride or have recommended a gun/semi gun. All the semis i've seen are around 7ft and not very wide and look like they have less volume than my 6'7" which I think I would struggle to paddle. My wave size limit would be around 6ft and won't be charging 8-10ft waves etc

I was thinking something around the 6'10 size with similar volume hidden in board like the V-Skate but with more rocker for the steeper waves and rounded pin tail. Thoughts anyone?

as long as it can handle good clean powerful waves.

Thanks el rancho, would it be adequate to take just the two boards or would I be better off taking a 3rd just in case? Going to be there for just under 2 weeks

I find too many boards can be a pain in the arse in Indo, I only ever take 2, 1 would be even better but a spare/back-up is smart and gives you some variety.
The V-skate should be perfect, I've got one. Just use what you've got, save the money for other stuff and surf boards you're familiar with.
Next time you'll have your own ideas about what boards to take.

Just don't ask some tool in a surf shop for advice.
Only done it once and he effectively put the mockers on half my trip.
The piece of poop wouldnt even work back home.

I like seven foot as a length for an old style good wave board.

Anything of short board shape that gets you into waves early and has a decent rail. *Re: step ups being on the narrow side, well ya just don't need the foam over there.

*6ft in powerful Indo isn't 6ft here. Just be careful you pick your tides as they change on a dime. Listen to the guys above they have been there stacks off times.

Have fun!!

Tides, yeah, probably moving 2' in an hour at full flood or ebb
