From now until late April is prime. That area is very close to the shelf, so things change quickly with the EAC this time of year. Alive with all sorts one day, dead the next. Have fished it from a boat, reefs straight out, well known spot for Snapper, Pearl Perch and very soon will be going off with Spanish Mackeral and Spotted Mackerel. Don't know about shore based, always launched boat from SWR.
Haven't surfed it.
Little bit south at SW Rocks has some shore based options...breakwall and river for Bream and Jew, beaches for whiting. They're getting small Black Marlin close in off the old Gaol already.
If you want to splurge, book a day on the Lauren Maree, they know their stuff. Live baited a shitload of big Kings with them a few years ago, close to SWR too

It doesn't exist ... its a myth and a misnomer to consider if it did it does.

Yes, there is no surf on the entire Mid North Coast between Tea Gardens and Coffs. Then its crap from Coffs to Lennox which is definitely the place to head to. Might be able to catch a couple of bream if you are really keen.

It's a wonderful, wonderful headland for bird spotting and hooking giant spanish mackerel. Glorious fantails and other insectivorous birds amongst a tightly knit plethora of littoral ecosystems.

Might be the southern limit of Pandanus too.

I don't know there has always seemed to be pandanus at Crescent Head whether they were introduced or native I have no idea.
Jaffa, I'm opinionated, and I'm sometimes right. So?

You're right. But there seems to be none at Plomer.

You see pandanus at Port Macquarie. That is about the southern limit.

OK, having pandanus is deeply symbolic of the tropics.

It feels so damm good to be surfing/rockfishing pandanus studded headlands.

Surfing isn't my first love. Fishing is good up there. And cheap to get to indo, I'd probably surf more than I am now.

Think they are in Carnarvon gorge, that'd be a stretch

Here's a couple Steve.

This is a pool just north of Katherine upstream from the gorges.

The cocks are a dead giveaway. The last time my daughter was working in London someone in the office found a photo of an Australian pandanus. They didn't believe it was real but named it the penis tree.
