Lawinensprengung!
I asked ski patrol and they said they didn't do it. Maybe a translation issue, or maybe they are really worried. The debris zone would be the groomed slopes below (after 2-3 cliff bands).
They got another 25cms up top last night.

They are going to open the top lifts right as I get away from ski school.
Wife is getting a taxi back from the hospital and picking them up.
The summer of boo is about to start.

Man, it's death out here.
Seen 15 sluffs and one minor slide so far. People are dropping off cornices onto scoured, loaded slopes, cranking hard turns mid face and without waiting for those below.

Fcuk that. I'm staying on the flat stuff and heading back down to the trees.

The danger outweighed the fun today. I played it safe.
I got some good turns in some unexpected places and found some thigh-deep powder.

Saw 3 separate groups cross avalanche debris to get out onto even more exposed chutes and faces.
Madness.

I read this article last night to make sure I took it easy today.

Gave the risky stuff a miss today and rode knee deep pillowy runs in the slackcountry, connecting out via hiking trails.
Freshies till close of lifts and each run I figured out how to add an extra few minutes.
It was a great day.
Only issue was if you met an excited protective hound as you came round a blind bend at 30kmh on the hiking trail.

I'm not on the snow anymore.
Spent the last 2 days 'low' down in trees and on gentle slopes. Low as in 1800m.

Saw a couple of people go down in helicopters and on sleds.

I hate hearing the helicopter at the snow. You just know it's some serious shit.

Yeah Switzerland has it for 30CHF a year, 70 for a family.
They'll even repatriate Swiss locals from anywhere in the world.

Conditions were mixed. The lack of base and dodgy snowpack/wind meant not much of the challenging terrain was rideable. But solo and out of condition meant I wasn't going to be hucking my meat off 20ft cliffs anyway.

Made the most of it by not following the herd. Was good.
That storm on Tuesday looks hectic.

BTW, had another visit to the hospital last night, but that's a story for another time.

Storm on Tuesday has changed. Friday looks the goods.

Looks like an Aussie family has gone missing out of bounds off the top of Nozawa.
Hopefully they just got stuck in deep snow on the track out. Lots of snow last week, and potential for slides if they went where I think they went.
