Re: General snow stuff
looks like hefty rescue bill for them.
nozawa had just over 2m in 8 days. myoko 336 in same time including just under 1m in 24hrs.
pics on insty of guys armpit deep and one of a guy looking up all you can see is his face from above.
we had a waist deep day last feb was nuts. super light, just blasting though it. was coming down
at times at about 10cm/hr. every run was freshies!

BA wrote:We're gonna hit Japan next Jan/Feb for the first time. Will be sending you guys plenty of PM's for info before then.
where you thinking of going? im going over with my daughter next jan, cause I made a deal that when she could ski all of perisher id take her.
so she stepped up lol we going to myoko. suginohara is awesome. looong runs. longest is over 8km. terrain park is about 1km long alone,
endless tabletops, rails, spines, nothing to big, mostly 20-30 footers. akakura onsen is good and right in front of town. cheap accom, discount lift
pass was about $45 with lunch! varied terrain and some good runs for kids. good pockets of trees between runs you can hook through on a pow day as well.
Re: General snow stuff
Not sure. Guy at my local snowboard shop goes a few times a year and said he'd give us some info on where he goes. Think it's more north. Said it's really uncrowded. Not full of Aussies. Pretty small town which is fine with us. Not going to party, just want quality uncrowded runs.brendo wrote:BA wrote:We're gonna hit Japan next Jan/Feb for the first time. Will do.Legion wrote:BA, you got questions, fire them off. Sooner rather than later, for some circumstances.
Re: General snow stuff
Reports are pretty useless this far.Legion wrote:Yeah I wanna know where.
Off the top lifts, one report said south from the peak which would be directly away from the base and pure death in current conditions.
Suspect it was so deep they couldn't actually make it along the ridge to the regular sidecountry location.
Brendo, going to Japan and riding the park is a special kind of batshit.
Re: General snow stuff
didn't ride it much, def not on pow days. the one at sugi is next to the 8km run, so why not mix it up and run through it??alakaboo wrote:Reports are pretty useless this far.Legion wrote:Yeah I wanna know where.

we had mixed conditions. one day at happo one was like aus spring. so we rode happo banks for a good few hrs. now that was fun!
but we did have 2 80cm days and a 50. balls deep pow

This looks pretty gnarly:

EDIT - Just watched it. Insanely steep, insanely fast.Young skiing phenom Jérémie Heitz challenges himself to ski 15 of the Alps’ steepest 4,000-meter peaks in just two ski seasons. To do so requires enormous physical endurance and superior mental fortitude. This is a new frontier in freeriding.
