I managed to get USD$25 from a money changer in the CBD, no minimum amount there.Matticus Finch wrote: Can I just get american dollars at the airport here? I asked at the post office and they said a minimum $200, I only need $25.

Which airport are you flying out of? You shouldn't have any troubles gettin $25 USD from any major airport, there's plenty of currency exchange traders.
Otherwise, last time I went to Indonesia I just paid for the Visa in AUD.

Re: First OS surf trip.
You are flying Virgin, right? I think your fare should include one item of checked in luggage. Checked luggage in on Virgin is now calculated on a per bag basis instead of a weight allowance, i.e. one bag that weighs a max of 20kg instead of three small bags with a total weight of 20kg.
And yes, you can pay for your Indonesian visa at Denpasar airport in AUD. You will get change back in Rupiah.

BTW. Damage, RLZ call Pasti, Bombers.black duck wrote:No such luck Damage, just curious as i was in the Telos Sept last year, at the Telos Surfing Village, right in front of Pastis, the premium right hander in that part of the world. LZR boys were around nearly every day to scope it out.Damage wrote:Gday Ducky, I'm staying at ZLR with 4 good mates, 3 brothers of mates and about 5 other mates of mates. Pretty excited!
You gonna be around?
You'll be doing a lot of boat travel I think. No waves out the front of LZR from what I understand, all waves are a boat ride - north towards the Island Lodge or south to the Surfing Village area. Some great waves, hope you score big time, especially Pastis. When it's on it's really fast and really hollow (best on the low tide).
RLZ do have some very good waves in there backyard some of the best setups in the Telos but the central area is more fickle needing solid swells.
But thats not a problem they have super fast modern boats to surf any area of Telos, North, Mid or South, Its not my cup of tea to stay at a resort or camp, id rather stay with the locals but IMO RLZ is has possibly the best set up resort wise in Sumatra proper five star setup and access to more waves than probably any other resort in Sumatra. (Aloita resort in mentawais also have a pretty good range from Ht,s ,telescope area and playgrounds)

Mat, if U change money at the airport, only do as much as U need, the exchange rate is crap.
Those bags I gave U, load all your gear in either one , packing light, U should be under the 23kgs.

Ooops, I'm off by 3kgs. There is enough ambiguity in the T&Cs to warrant a phone call, i.e. does separate piece here mean individual boards or individual board bags?Matticus Finch wrote:Yep virgin - 1 x 23kg. It's a saver fare.
From the oversized baggage T&C's . . .I'll just ring them to make sure.If you are travelling on a Saver fare with only sporting goods you will be required to purchase a checked baggage allowance for each separate piece you are carrying. We advise you to pre-purchase baggage online or by calling our Guest Contact Centre. Baggage allowances added/bought at the airport will be charged at a higher fee.

Re: First OS surf trip.
not sure if they still do this, but if you ring up you can reserve a bulkhead or exit row seat for $25 each way. well worth it for the extra leg room. I did it 7yr ago, but not sure if that's what they now call premium
economy for a lot more dough!

Aisle seats are great if you're a lecherous cnut, for leching at the hosties.
Regarding your choice of boards to take, bear in mind that bad things can (and inevitably do) happen to boards on planes. Plenty of ding repairers in Indo though, probably obvious, but don't take anything with glassed in fins that's asking for damage.

Re: First OS surf trip.
Damage just back safe & sound from 10 days in the Telos.
Good time had by all. Swell tailed off a bit in the second half but jeezus it was a bloody surfing marathon so to be honest I didn't really mind.
First time I've ever had to duck-dive a dead pig too.
Now back to my 5000 phone mssgs/emails .
