anyone surfed japan properly?

Not talking about the chiba sardine can madness, but has anybody made any trips out of town to some of of the other islands, Shikoku, Kyushu, okinawa, amami etc? For a country made up of as many islands and with as much pacific coastline as japan there seems to be a seriously small amount of surf tourism to the country. Any reason for this? other than the price/tsunami/earthquake/radiation thing..
