Recommended Surfboard Coffins for travel

I plan on taking 3 boards (6'0,6'4,6'8) on a trip next year to Indo and the local surf shop owner recommended a triple coffin with wheels but the thing is the wheels seem to add 2kg of weight. That's 2kg of clothes and other stuff I have to sacrifice. The O&E triple 7'0 with wheels weighs in at 6.4kg, while w/o wheels it is 4.5kg. The RipCurl 7'2 triple coffin weighs a mere 3.2kg which is what I am leaning towards but it doesn't look as solid on the coffin walls, though they say "lightest strongest blah blah".

I've weighed my boards they are about 3kg each with fins so 3 boards and the RC coffin will weigh in around 12.2kg. This should be pretty easy to carry around the airport if necessary and onto a coach or even walking for a couple of kilometers with a back pack (or maybe a wheelie bag). The O&E coffin fully loaded w/o wheels would be 13.5kg (the weight of a heavier all mountain bike) which might start to make a difference. O&E w/wheels would be 15.4kg and then once you get away from the nice airport floors you probably have to carry the mongrel anyway.

So my questions are:
1. what have people used and found the best for getting about.
2. how was the protection, any problems?
3. my biggest board is 6'8 anyone know of a coffin smaller than 7'0 that it would fit in?

I check the dimensions of what the airline will allow for you to take on first.

I had a helluva drama getting the Quadfather to the Goldie in 2010, had to sweet talk the lass at the counter rather well to convince her that it was not too long (I think it was by about a couple of centimetres but some of those check-in people can be right assholes)

It was the one Pridmore sent around. Dimensions escape me but I think it was a 6'6" or a 6'8". Pretty sure it was a 6'6" but the bag added more and that was were I was pushing the length limit

That was flying Virgin Blue from Melbourne to Coolangatta

International may be better, I haven't done it before but I think there were a few threads on here a while back about how they've scaled back the size limits

Not very robust, and no wheels, but light.

Dragged a snowboard bag around Europe on the way to Canada, not something I want to do again. You're right on the wheels, how far do you think you'll actually drag it? If you've got 3 boards, you'll be a magnet for every bemo driver within cooee...

Go light as you can and pack well. Plan not to walk far, wheels are a gimmick.
As are coffins if you ask me, I'd love one of these...

If you ask me the wheels are more of a pain if you are taking 3 boards or less.
Also you will often find you can fit 3 boards in a 2 board bag nice and snug with fins removed. I use my 2 board bag much more than my 3 board bag. The 3 board bag is just that much more of a pain.
Ask yourself if you realy need the 6'8 (the answer may be yes) as 2 boards is much easier to travel with than 3, and often the bigger board is the one you don't end up using. If 6'0 is your normal everyday board, then the 6'8 I would imagine would mean you plan to surf 8 foot or so. If however your normal board is 6'4, then yes the 6,8 might be worth taking. It also depends where in indo you are going. For me Bali would mean just 2 boards, G Land would mean more plus a longer board as an example. Anyway just some ideas.

Not a fan of coffins or even doubles, I normal travel with only two shortish boards as I like to move around easily on, busses, taxi's, ferrys, longboats, planes and hate dragging boards around and everything always seems so much harder and prices go up on transport when Indo's see a big board bag.

But offcourse i still need boards anyway ive found the pefect solution:

"Creatures of leasure slim fit" just a single board bag and i can fit 2 boards without fins perfectly snug, no excess and super light.

Dont know if they have doubles but if they did im sure you could easily fit 3 boards in it.

Do you mean the one with neoprene rubber around the rail, if so having 2 boards in a cover is stretching it out a bit making it thinner on the rail , how does that go?
