I had a quick look at your site a few weeks ago, after I saw a picture that you had posted on Facebook naming a person (friend) and the spot he was surfing. The fact that you chose to clearly name a spot on the internet was really disappointing.. so I was not in the best frame of mind going to the site.

I got the impression that you are aiming the site at beginners and people who are not familiar with the area. Even though you come across as a local, you certainly do not behave like a local – unless you really like surfing in crowds or are selling out for some reason? Maybe I have got this all wrong? But I am not a fan of the concept. What is wrong with getting to know people and the areas you surf by exploring and trial & error?

As a surfer who frequents various spots that you are profiling, I was left wishing your website didn’t exist at all. I think most people would agree with me when I explain a situation that occurred in the past. A group of us were regularly surfing an out of favour spot that was firing for over a month.. you had to be in the know to find it and know it was working. Anyway, one of the guys posted a few photos on the internet, and before we knew it.. the place was crawling with kooks getting in the way, dropping in on people, snaking each other, etc. I am all about sharing waves, but it really gets to me when there is a bad vibe in the water and people start destroying perfect sections to noseride. All the guys were pretty disappointed and since then the said bloke has not posted any more photo’s and names of spots on the internet - he learnt his lesson, because he was frustrated himself at the increase of people at the said spot.

Which brings me to a time when I saw you out in the water.. I will say that it was over a weekend at a popular spot which is usually a bit of a circus.. but I was a bit disappointed with your surf etiquette. I think it is everyones responsibility to improve the vibe in the water.. not fuel the bad vibe. So I maybe you are ok with crowds and bad behaviour.. but there are a lot that aren't.

I know this all might be a bit tough to take.. but you did ask. Can I suggest you stick to covering local events rather than ruining everyone’s fun by posting photos and naming spots on the internet. I wish you all the best on getting it right.. for eveyones sake!
