"Falling coconuts kill 150 people worldwide each year, 15 times the number of fatalities attributable to sharks,"

how many coconut trees do you walk under a week?
how many times do you play in the sharks territory a week?
those stats mean nothing without some context

i just thought it was a funny statistic.

The only time ive been genuinley worried about a shark attack was when i was in Maui, where the water was all chopped up and muddy = higher risk of an attack. when i returned home i found out there was a recent attack to a guy on a beach just a few miles north.

How many die on the Pacific Hwy? Well there has been 4 this week.

Ya wanna see gruesome, you wanna see Accident Investigation Unit photos.

When was the last death of a surfer in NSW due to shark? Was it Byron in 93?

How come we get spooked in 3ft onshore surf at dark but think nothing of getting into the metal cage and driving straight to the Goldy?

And that is context.

I should have stuck those photos up all over the place when I was last at Byron - might have had more space at the Pass to myself!

Wasn't the last fatal surfer attack up there in 1982 at Tallows? There was a recent one but it was a spear fisherman - a case of the hunter becoming the hunted.

There was an attack near Scotts about 4 years ago - the guy was surfing alone and he fully recovered.

There hasnt been a shark attack in sydney for years has there? I'd be a bit more worried if i lived in SA or WA... Seems to be a few more bull sharks up qld lately too.

In Sydney though, Im more worried about certain drivers running me off the road quite frankly.
