Yep. Hopkins was owned/run by "the hop", but has now changed name and hands to basement skate. Now I believe it's run by Dave, a longtime hop shop employee and big into the sport/scene etc.

And yes, it's a great shop. Good people too.

awesome. just down the road. boomerang bowl ! when they plan on getting it all done and finished?

ps: redfern's old shitty steel halfpipe got ripped down, and now replaced by a really wide concrete halfpipe. one end's got a 6-7ft tombstone section with some vert. and the rest is about 4 foot deep. lit up at night too. have had a session on it the other week. well worth hitting up.

The website says that work on the skate park has begun but it doesn't mention a completion date. Drop the council a line?

Hi there,
Thanks for taking the time to visit Your Say Randwick and asking us a question.
You asked:
'are you putting lights in for night skating ? please do'
Our response has now been posted on the site.
Our response:
No, we are not planning to put in lighting for night skating. Night skating may impact unnecessarily on local residents.
Please let us know if you have any more questions or if anything needs to be clarified.
Regards
Randwick City Council

Skateboarding in the Sierras ... though only about one minute of the four shows any skateboarding.

Is 5D, Bondi and Riv bowls in good condition? Time to dust off the old gear and get back into it.. Haven't dropped into a vert bowl for about 4 years and Tas's new doco has got me pumped!
If it feels good, do it.

Hey, this thread has really taken me back- I moved from Fremantle to Five Dock in '85. Right near Five Dock park...

The Bowl there was fcukin insane! Really made more for BMX I think... but there was a crazy scene there, very Dog Town Z boys.. Guys with nick names like 'Snake Eyes' and 'Weetbix' (who was a BMX rider featured on a weetbix commercial- he was amazing actually)

I was pretty intimidated by the sheer size of the bowl and it's almost unmakeable drops. Who the hell designs a bowl with 2 metre vert walls and about 2 metres of flat??

But there were guys there who were doing some serious airs on skateboards. Dulwich Hill was far more user friendly!

I ended up preferring street skating, which back then meant putting WD-40 to your ballbearings and finding the best downhill runs you could around Annandale and Balmain, with the darkest parks for beers and bongs.. yeah you know the deal..

Haven't skated much since surfing took over though.

I remember some wheelchair xylophonist getting all macho about how he liked to smash absolutely heaps of Weetbix before a hard day's roofing

Five Dock still has that old lumpy vertical death bowl (U-shaped concrete half pipe rather) but also a stack other intertwined bowls off to the side of it. The park is probably five times the size of when you last saw it.

Dulwich Hill is a lot mellower. Macquarie Fields has an insane bowl. Super tight and fast.

Still get out there on occasion, but the surf has to be particularly appalling before I'd go skating over surfing.

I was at the Five Dock bowl earlier in the year. Needs a bit of smoothing.

The new park at Chifley (near malabar / la perouse) has almost finished being built. Final touches, landscaping etc underway. Should be open in the matter of weeks. Have seen pics of the new boomerang shaped bowl. Looks pretty decent.

Yeah I'll see if I can get hold of the photos I was shown of the bowl. The Mac Fields lights were out last night, so we headed to Leumeah near Campbelltown instead. It's an ok set up. Not great. Some bmx psychos were doing fkn backflips. Young grommets letting off mini fireworks right next to were the police had their RBT set up, turning a blind eye. They're a tough breed out that way. :-D-:
