Wetsuit for NZ later November - Taranaki area

Afternoon gents, will be spending 11 days in the North island of New Zealand, south west: Taranaki area (Opunake to be specific) for 6 days and then Raglan for 5 days and looking for some thoughts on if I should get a 4/3 lighter performance wetsuit or a warm 3/2 ?. I had a look and the water temp averages 16 C around that time of the year, which is a little cooler than Sydney. Will take my current 3/2 for the arvo sessions however need a good dawn patrol option.

Will take my booties too as there seem to be lots or rocky points on the Surf Highway 45 and this should help with keeping me warm too.

Your thoughts will be much appreciated and if you have been there, a few tips would be too, thanks.
Cheers
JON

You could almost get away with just a top shelf warm 3/2, but safest thing would be to take a stretchy 4/3 and your 3/2 for sunny afternoons. Its onshore most of the time in Nov. So you're going to be surfing when the wind is light variable.

Wave rich area but the winds will be a problem mostly SW. Albatross point is the only place thats offshore but they have snipers on the hills.

Thanks mate, local friend tells me I can drive to New Plymouth area and that plenty of spots can be offshore on the SW wind, which makes sense when you look at the map. Apparently it is not a long drive, under an hour.

cheers

Jumping on this bandwagon - we are heading to the Coromandel area over XMAS (Whangamata).
Will a springy suffice?

No you'll need a 3/2 steamer. Maybe in Feb you'll get a few days when you could wear a spring suit or board shorts and a vest.
