I've been trying to picture Felipe in his old age. What he looks like. And I think he's probably going to look like Marty McFly's dad in the first Back to the Future movie. Or someone like that.

Hmmm, I just did an image search for Marty McFly's dad and realised I must be thinking of someone else.

Frustrating when the head doesn't work the way you think it should! I hope Kelly Slater starts having the same problem in a very public way. That would be very entertaining for surf fans and historians.

Felipe and Al have very similar eyebrows in those pictures you posted Buddy. I wonder if Felipe's eyebrows say something about his surfing.

They had some of the Women's on at the pub last night. I actually enjoyed their surfing on those waves more than the men's because they were surfing more down the line.

I saw that Beany , I mean actually watch it and pay attention to it, not just it be a random background at the pub incident.

Not much different to my usual viewing of surf comps at home. I presume most people watch a twenty minute heat while they are doing something else. Waves looked way better than for the men's final.

The day before the men's finals day the surf and the surfing was incredible.

The top women rip. They aren't as good as the blokes but they rip. Women are physiologically suited to some sports, people like Moore and Wright are short stocky powerful women and power away. The others with the exception of Steph are talented and dance across the waves but can occasionally look a little tight in the hips and knees e.g. Sally Fitz.

They all would be better than 99.999999999% of the male population.

Yeah I watched 'em.

I agree with thud (above) though I feel Sally especially is moving past that now, really done a lot of work on her style in the past year.

Some of the women looked a bit overawed by JBay, and I bet they haven't been getting many set waves in the free surfing. There was a fair bit of surfing on manual setting, doing a turn, then doing another turn, but without much sense of flowing into the wave itself, just reproducing technique while being a bit spooked by the wave and the situation

Goofies seemed a bit more liberated, perhaps because they don't get quite as much of a sight of that wall, so they don't surf ahead of the section in their minds, they seemed like they were looking at and riding the wave more in the moment rather than always thinking "oh my god what is going to happen 50 metres away??"

I think a lot of that stuff will clear away through the event and the cream will pretty much rise to the top as it should.

What I can't help but wonder is: where the FCUK is Tyler? She was a prime mover in getting the girls to Jeffreys. Now her brother Owen, who two years ago was out of the picture with some still not quite totally explained brain damage, left the event with a bad cold. Who does that? And Tyler's pulled the pin, without a public explanation. I really hope nothing bad has just happened.

Owen put up a new instagram pic.
No mention about his cold.
