So how are we all going re the Pool Benchmark? Like where is J-Bay in comparison?
Pool benchmark?

Since when is the pool a benchmark?

I think you've got the cart before the horse.....it's the sports management brass at WSL who should be asking how the pool shapes up to Bay.
Well that’s what I am getting at, right, they have bought the pool and they want it to be a real part of the CT etc, so yeah it is a benchmark for what is acceptable in CT competition. I’m interested in real thought about this. I do not trust the knee jerk Kelly Hate or whatever, it just doesn’t matter that much. But does JBay make the pool less acceptable or is it irrelevant?

Honestly to me the only real thing is the surfing in the great surf zones, otherwise the whole thing is bullshit, but it is nuanced bullshit, like the English broadcast on Facey right now is getting 17k, a bit of a jump from 5k. Yet the people in charge of pro surfing never used to worry themselves about numbers. Hard as it may be to believe, most of them never worried about how many people surfed or any of that jazz. They figured, nobody drives F1 cars either, nobody drives on NASCAR tracks, nobody plays at Augusta, yet these sports are huge businesses. Pro surfing doesn’t need more surfers, it just needs to blow minds.

Thats all I've ever said since Day One.

Those round 4 heats yesterday blew my mind.

The pool was a grind to sit through.

Yeah but surely Nick that was when the comps were run by clothing companies, featuring the sponsored riders of said clothing companies and when surf media was a handful of mags featuring the comps and the sponsored riders of the clothing companies. Presumably nobody cared because a) there were too many unquantifiables in that symbiosis and b) the clothing companies were awash with cash

I wish these guys would do some big straight airs with classic grabs! Work them into their foundation and keep speeding down the line. But no they go for reverses, always these stupid reverses. Needless affectation! Posers. Pro surfing is in a sorry state. I blame Jordy Smith and Julian Wilson and their enablers and fluffers.

pretty interesting heat with jordy and aussie jesus. Judges kind of fluffed it i think. that graphic on Wades board with the straight stripes on the rail look rubbish. Makes the board look shit.

When you think about great photogenic boards while they are being ridden, there aren't a lot of them. It's really Mr G. Lopez and his Lightning Bolts and the time and the place and how they gloriously added to the mythos.

I predict... Filipe will end up in old people's home one day! Old guy in a movie, rocking chair on a porch.

Right now, whenever Filipe wins, I think everything is basically OK!

I might go to Chopes now, just to go for a surf with him and ask him why that place fcuks him up.

I wonder if you'd have to go back to the 90’s to find a main tour event with so many floaters.
And I do enjoy seeing a good section traversing floater.
