That Mikey Wright, Jesse Mendes altercation was pretty funny.
Brazzos making death threats on his Instagram. Nuts.
So Mikey takes a wave cause he’s in a better position, after he’s just had a wave, and now he gets death threats? Didn’t know there was priority in free surfs.
Purveyor of fine bitches since 2004.

Those offshore reefs, a few go alright although a shark shield might offer a bit more piece of mind these days.

Nick - given the level of performance in round 1 and 2, reckon you could finish in at least the quarters? Or is Margs just so different from what the pro's would normally surf.

The pros have been surfing Margs for the past 30 years.
Thats no excuse.

He wasn't on the rocks when he called for the ski. Why not use a set screw?

I think Doherty's piece today nailed it.

There's no Alpha dogs. Mick's out, Kelly's more or less out, Parko's mucking around. Owen's married with a kid and is about as happily Beta as it gets. JJF's on his own trip, he re-set the scene last year at Margs but didn't really mean to Lead, if you get my drift. Julian feels similar to that in the being on his own trip thing.

The Brazilian crew, they are trained to see themselves as survivors against the odds, battling the powers that be. They might wanna win but they can't lead the tour with that head space. Gabriel is the most likely candidate but a) he has retreated way back into the fortress and barely communicates with anyone and b) who would follow?

Somebody needs to step up here and force the issue. I just don't see it on the roster though.

To see what I mean, look at the peak periods on the men's tour. First phase: Rabbit, Kanga, Shaun, MR. Second phase, TC, TC, Occy, Pottz, Elko, BL, Dooma. Phase three: Kelly, Sunny, Luke Egan, CJ/Damien, Jake the Snake, etc. Phase four: AI, Kelly, Taj, Parko, Mick, etc etc.

The tour is a pack and packs need Alphas, or they fall to bits. Right now it feels like the WSL is the Alpha Dog, but they're not doing the surfing, are they, no. They're just telling everyone the Future. The surfers need to do that.

It's the consequence of WSL policy of asepsis.
It would not happen in any other sport where you have the fan interceding, claiming for a guy to step up and fuschia off.
Surfing it's just to loose (loose ? really ?) for that kind of engagement, i guess.
And social media helps to keep'em bland as they could, sell, sell, sell, do not dare to hurt my brand image kid!
Can you imagine the fuss if Occy had social media back then when he said Let's stop these American wankers ?
In the very next day Bong would be all over him, WSL would invite the Occ to Post show interview asking questions about how much he really loved american surfers, artists, movies, songs...
Every good plot needs conflict and WSL killed all the friction when Pete Mel refused the microphone to Medina after the F word (after that heat against Micro in the Goldie)

Well, it's a jolly old junket for those guys. Having a bunch of increasingly young and media schooled kids with varying levels of literacy in English having to front up for pre and post heat interviews puts them in an increasingly paternalistic position.

The instragram link has the car park 'confrontation'

And agree all the surfers are playing to a formula - neat, loyal to sponsors, thankful to be here, blah blah
