Has there ever been an attack at main break?
Pretty sure there hasn't.

Maybel legal issues too. They might get their arse sued of them if there was a fatality or serious injury to a surfer.

Does anyone have a clue what the legal situation would be?
Just need to print up 34 waivers. :-D-:

What's the legal situation when a pro footballer breaks his neck in a game?

What if a plane crashes en route to a WSL CT with four CT pros on board?

What if you get out of bed and fall over and hurt your fcuken ankle?

There's statistically a greater chance of a pro dying at Pipe than via shark attack.

Work injury, I think. And hence the pros couldn't sue the WSL for a shark attack. If the contracts aren't cut that way the WSL are crazy.

Well that's probably the end of this event on the tour (another one gone). leaves JJF ranked number 26 on the tour so pretty hard to retain the title.

statement from WSL - they do say a chance to finish the event later in the year but not clear where and how

Top stuff, Steve.

Gabby was surfing Nth wall Ballina in the lead up to Snapper. Didn't look worried at all considering the shark history compared to main break margs.

Medina's on the record for disliking the Margs comp. He doesn't like the Box and is not a fan of main break. Not sure of his view of Nth Point other than "it's tricky, you know". Has only recently decided to like Bells, having spent some time to get to know the wave and reversing his earlier views, prefers Winki though. He's not a fan of the Aus leg in general, having not nailed it here since 2014. Seems there might be more to it than not liking the waves themselves...?

my take on Margies.

https://beachgrit.com/2018/04/30402/
I think they (the wsl) can use the margs narrative to be the catalyst for an all-pool world tour. they want that transition; but they know the purists will solidly undermine and devalue an all-pool tour at every point.

now soph has painted the perfect alibi to speed up the process. sharks.

pro surfing used to be the embodiment and pinnacle of surfing and surf culture. all surfers could identify with the pros – women wanted to be with them, and men wanted to be them. once upon a time there were personalities, there were heated clashes as well as deep camaraderie. now ... there is nothing more than corporate robots with the AI hard programmed to monetise everything they do rinsing and repeating the same turns to the same stale, drawn out criteria.

we started inching towards irrelevancy in the Thundercloud Fiji swell when pros dodged once in a lifetime cloudbreak.

now, pro surfing is pretty much the furtherest thing from surfing and the thing we all identify as 'surf culture'. it's about as riveting of a spectacle to watch as golf. it's tame and it's neat, when it should be wild and raw.

and how's the fucking irony of brazilians bagging margs and possibly (in the future) dodging her in their droves, when the very next stop is the most unpalatable of places.

rio.

yawn

pro surfing ... put a fork in her, she's done.

yep, it was a diametric shift in surfing. the compass was pointed towards the lands of safe and vanilla, and we've been sailing that path ever since.
