Hey, Rustt is one of those people who sap your will to live!

Great Final.
Sorry Steve, I can't take contests seriously, tried watching the contest for the first time ever, found it boring, prefer watching free surfing, just don't get contest surfing. I can get contest surfing, just can't get how you could get excited watching it. Each to there own. :-)
Most contest surfing I find deadly boring, I watch those heats because someone pays me to write about it.

Rubbish. You have a transparent, enduring and unshakeable affection for the form. You are like one of those poor mutts that vivisectionists used to chop up who would sit there through the agony, licking the hands of their foul tormentor in dumb unquestioning loyalty. It's why your articles are such a good read

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.

Ask me at the end of the year when I've watched every heat of every contest and written about it.

Sheep,
i wrote a diary for a Brazilian magazine website for every contest, every day, for about 5 years.
Every friggin' heat, no rest for the wicked!
Didn't make any friends, it was painfully pleasurable to write.
I survived, but had vicious increase in alcohol habits...

Why don't you just get a job writing adverts, pay would have to be better and it would be pretty much much the same thing wouldn't it? Making something bland sound interesting.

I would imagine that jobs in that industry have exploded with the need for innovative, super cool ads for social media. Its so different compared to the shit thats on the old media.

Braithy and Steve could make a killing with their skills. Nietzsche, personal anecdotes and anal sex to help you in your choice of household detergents and insecticides.

Speaking of anal sex today I'm seeing pictures of Mick and Italo hugging all over the Internet and can't help but think they might be in love. I would be very happy for them if they were. They would make a great couple!

They are both sponsored buy Rip Curl and FCS so I would expect that Owen was under instruction from his sponsors.
You know what, Rustt, that truly is not what happens in professional surfing mate.
Hey Nick, I'm not wanting to be argumentative but! It did happen once in Hawaii and no doubt you were most probably there, not a sponsor thing but Hawaiian surfers intimidating other surfers into losing so Sunny Garcia (I think) could win the world title.
I think that may have been when i lost interest in Professional surfing, I was surprised at the time at how open they were about it and how someone could be proud to win the title that way.
Did he end up winning? From memory Occy tried his hardest to lose but fumbled a win. :-D-:

Good old Occy fumbling a win on the North Shore with the Black Shorts glaring at him from the sand. :)

Oh for sure there have been cases of surfers intimidating each other in competition for personal gain, sometimes it's worked and sometimes it hasn't. (In Sunny's case, as you note, it did not.) Every case I know of has occurred in Hawaii btw.

There's also been one or two cases where Pro A has offered Pro B money to throw a heat, where the ratings points would then favour Pro A. Not in this century though.

This is v different from what you're implying: that today's pro surfers throw heats under instruction from their endorsement contractors. Aside form being so obviously, dumbly corrupt and against the interests of everyone involved, it's just not how the relationships between surfers and endorsers work, there's numerous people involved. Even the suggestion would destroy the relationship.

I'm not an Occy worshipper but well done Occ.

Bells was pretty good to watch I thought. Kind of motivated me to surf a bit harder than usual and try a few things in the surf. I wore a G string and a pink Roxy vest trying to emulate Steph. Sad as that is it kinda worked for me, I ripped.
