Ok, so I knew my watch's band was in it's last legs, but it fell off yesterday without breaking, but a button was pushed in and I went for a surf...
It's always either the band or the battery that lets me down.
So, any recommendations for a cheap replacement?

Got a Casio, hands not digital. For $60 it was cheaper than replacing the battery and resealing an Ice watch I used previously. It just survived three weeks in Bali and some solid waves, we'll see how i lasts. Says it's 100m proof. Hmmmm.

Casios last forever.

I was told by a watchmaker that for surfing anything less than 150m waterproof is shit.
From experience 50m waterproof is bullshit - the first splash of water and it's gone.

Never had a problem with 50M in the surf, but my Casio is 100M and four years old.

ISO 22810:2010 says that 50m watches are only suitable for ‘shallow’ water activities (although that includes swimming) and should not be used for activities involving high-velocity water or submersion below shallow depth; 100m is recommended for surfing

So 50m is fine so long as you don’t duck dive to deep or fall off

Regardless, until my current Casio, I've never used anything but 50M and never had any water ingress.
In fact, my previous Casio,, which was only 50M, I changed the battery twice myself, lightly smeared Vaseline over the seal and re-assembled it. I had it from 1993, before I moved to Sydney, until about 5 years ago when one of the pins failed while I was being rag dolled on a largish (but not too large - I'm old) day at Moffat.

So, no doubt as with most things, there's a margin for error built in.

Is there a need for a watch in the surf in Bali? I thought they were for pre work surfs to allow you to stay the absolute maximum of time out there.

I've had three ripcurl ocean tide watches over the past two decades. The first one was the best. Seems llike they make each newer model less rugged than the last.
Still like it though.

Looking for a recommendation for a solid surf watch. I see the last comment on this was a few years back. Dare I ask if a product has since popped up that has people genuinely backing its value and reliability?
Looking to replace mine that is pretty old and on its last legs.
