i love how filipe conserved his energy in that last one. couple of barrels not even trying. obviously his head is filled with a chaotic pile of all sorts of moves. the infamous "tree of variations". no doubt we'll soon be seeing him drag out of the marsh the hippopotamus.

john john florence can wake up in a sweat and grasping all around in a garden full of big hard black dicks with yellow petals for foreskins. learn to do a proper roundhouse cutback, cracker!

I somehow realized that it was not possible to calculate all the variations, and that the knight sacrifice was, by its very nature, purely intuitive. And since it promised an interesting game, I could not refrain from making it.

I'm enjoying Lucky Al's coverage of this event more than the WSL's.

What's the surf looking like for the next few days? Is it gonna be as good?

i've been reminiscing about the days when pro surfers had three sponsors each - a board sponsor, a clothing sponsor and a wetsuit sponsor. tom carroll had byrne, quiksilver and rip curl, occy had rusty, billabong and peak, and tom curren had channel islands, rip curl and op. someone had qantas, maybe tom carroll or pam burridge or someone like that, some upstanding member of the pro-surfing and wider community. how cool was that, probably got free tickets and business class seats and everything!

i was thinking about their boards the other day. they do look fucking ridiculous. 10 sponsors of all kinds of shit stickered all over their boards.

i wonder if the sponsors think that's actually gonna sell their shit for them.
