Chrome. It was a settings issue. Never had it before. By the time I rectified things, I was ready for bed

Love how Lucky Al's mind works

And yes to Steve's comment. Excepting the occasional wave, it's much the same as what goes on at average beachies the world over

Yes. You are 100% correct. No doubt somewhere on our twisted planet someone is running the 'Biggest Swinging Dick' competition.
I prefer the unofficial 'i don't have the slightest interest in Pro surfing, how many people can I discuss my lack of interest with' competition.
That's actually my preferred comp too but its a bloody hard one to win.

I can see why the WSL might prefer you don't attend.

I've gone back and had a squizz at the analyser.

far as I can tell, this is a real low water mark for modern pro surfing.

really, really dull meat and potatoes surfing at a very average wave won the day.

If thats the best they got they need to take a good long walk in the room full of mirrors, as HG Nelson would say.

you keep dishing up gruel and trying to tell people it's caviar and pretty soon they won't taste anything you offer.

Problem for the WSL is: with everything in house, you get a culture of backslapping and yes men and before you know it, everyone starts believing their own bullshitt.

I'm boycotting the WSL until they give accreditation to all our fine surf journalists here at Realsurf.

I encourage everyone here on Realsurf to do the same. Sure, we don't have the numbers, but Realsurf punches well above it's weight when it comes to influence in all matters surfing.

Doesn't it?

it's easy to get accreditation Cranked. You go up to the press counter there'll be some intern there about 18 years old.
As NIck said, him and SEan Doherty between them have hoovered up all the paying gigs.

Like the fisherman who only deigns to eat three species of fish, we are a little spoiled. I think it's fair enough the world tour has a Brazilian stop. For the event, they are trying to get the better surf that is still accessible for local fans. it was mostly pretty decent surf. It's funny to me that it seems the keener the surfer, the more intolerant they are of WSL events in not exceptional waves. I would think they would have more understanding of the vagaries of the weather. Seemed to me there were some big turns going down, looking a bit smaller on the screen.

even if you get paid for a gig... there's no access at the events like there used to be. snapper used to have the competitors' stairs you could sit on to watch the heats. not anymore.

bells, you used to be able on the back steps. not anymore. like nick said, he spent half a day wrangling access to those stairs. realty is, if he couldn't get to be there, you can cover the even more effectively from home analysing the webcast.

mediocre surfing won in mediocre waves, that is about the best that can be said about it.

I just watched the final in full.

The crucial call was when ADS last wave was ridden: Pottz was not sure whether they wave was going to better a mid 7.

Thats a guy whose seen thousands of waves ridden at CT level and he wasn't sure it was anything better than that.

Judges gave it a 9.8.

Thats what I mean about serving up gruel and calling it caviar.

The judging is one the most enjoyable aspects of pro surfing. I thought the 9.8 was a bit strong, but you need to be at the beach to get a true sense of what is going on.
I agree they should encourage and assist the non-WSL surf media.

Does that accreditation allow you to interview competitors, judges, admin, etc and publish what you see fit though?
