Re: Wave Garden Cove
It was Drouyns engineering mind that pointed out the bathymetry shaping in Kelly Slaters wavepool.
In other words proof of concept that if you transferred this bathymetry to the ocean you would get a similar wave if there were no tide changes.
Note the 2 pools, I wonder if they have plans for experimenting with the one on the right.

2 things. How come in sunny Spain everyone's wearing more rubber than a gimp at a Mardi Gras after party and someone give Wilko a feed. As for the waveamatic machine. Old bad back goats is better even with poo water.

If the scaling up is achievable then WJW!
Great place to train if you can't get to the ocean for whatever reason.
I assume they'll have midweek pensioner concessions for Trev and I

AS these things become accepted, there will definitely be an alternate circuit.GUARANTEED contestable waves beats the ocean for the " sport"...The sport being competitive surfing.Onshores/tidal changes ect become irrelevant.
A stadium atmosphere where admission is charged.
Team/manufacturer challenges.
M.Dora will be turning in his grave!
My only interest is to see how the novelty feels?
However, if its good my view may change.
With the absolute proliferation of humanity at just about every good surfing location,These things bring the alternative.
So let the debate rage, manmade V nature!....

Re: Wave Garden Cove
Wave Garden Cove sounds perfect for a surfers retirement village....or more likely the new ride at Sea World. They can have people dressed as walruses and polar bears walking around selling drinks.

Re: Wave Garden Cove
So if it was in a senior surfers retirement village...gated community of course......you could have big screens playing your Favorite surf movie in the background or just epic big wave footage. So you could experience the thrill of surfing Jaws or Shippies while actually trimming on a waist high mush burger. Big speakers of course.

Re: Wave Garden Cove
What debate is there to have?
How can you debate the merits of wave pools vs good surf breaks until you've surfed both?
You guys think good surf breaks are crowded? The last surf I had at Sunset Beach, it was 10-12' and one other guy was out, and then he went in. This was late January this year.
The last really good surf I had at the Superbank was a Friday morning at the end of March, it was 4-6' and fully pumping, I was surfing the long sandbar down from Little Marley and there were maybe 10 guys out.
I have never ridden a wave in a wave pool, do I feel the lack of it in my surfing experience? I dunno.
If I were you guys, in your late 40s and 60s, I would be spending my surfing energies pursuing really epic surfing experiences in great waves. You don't have very long before that shit is beyond you, if it isn't already. Get that shit doen, to some extent at least. Retirement village kook wave pool surf will always be waiting.
