Snapper Quiky Pro 2017

Post by foamy » Wed Mar 15, 2017 10:56 am

Looks like they might get some decent surf, though there is never enough for the (sigh) 78 heats (51 mens, 27 womens).
Anybody got any predictions?

Will Longtom be reporting on the event?

My pointless predictions for the Snapper Pro and the WSL title in 2017.

I have a feeling it'll be the return of Mick and Steph, hometown hero bullshit.

Kelly & Steph.

btw, 78 heats is just a war of attrition for the viewers ...

Yep, those opening three rounds of the mens. 12 heats, then another 12 heats, then another 12 heats.
So repetitive. Days go by, just for the purpose of eliminating a couple of the 10 real contenders.

Next year I think we can be assured of less heats.

Comps should be 2 days.
\

`day 1 an Eddie Style aggregate/leader board day with 6-8 man heats and long heat times aimed at giving every one maximum water time. This rewards risk and progression and penalises conservatism i.e. the reverse of the current format.

`day2 cuts the stragglers and goes to `man on man.

The only problem with large heats is that you will have hassling which leads to people missing waves or taking off too deep to produce the best surfing. Some people enjoy watching that argy-bargy. I just want to see great wave riding.

Shane Dorian was saying on the Occ-Cast that the big waves events are won by very good hasslers, who employ various techniques including physical blocking.

OK, rotating 4 man heats with priority.

But I would like to see some gamesmanship and argy bargy, rather than stale use of priority which has as much drama as watching grass grow.

Women surfing mush. Conlogue pulls off the sort of wave and pulls the bluebottle off her forearm. Talk about fun.

Last couple of years the woman got some of the better surf at Snapper.
The woman are lighter and smaller. Maybe they thought they would make the conditions look not so dire.

78 heats. There is the possibility of good surf on the weekend. Depends if you think the local winds will be kind. Maybe, they want to churn through the opening rounds so that, by the weekend, they can have the better heats in the better conditions.

Clearly hasn't worked.

Enever just got a bluey to the throat. Had breathing problems. That's gonna go down well.

It's off.\\

Opening thoughts: Joey Turpel has been scoffing about 50 too many cream buns in the offseason. He's looking jowly. The new interior decor of the WSL post show room is extremely creepy in a whitebread south australian serial killer way. That could be the first fatal sign of the WSL running out of money.
