About to buy a new board........

Post by jeffn » Tue Jun 14, 2016 8:47 am

Hi,
I think this is my first post here.

I'm 52, am intermediate in skill level. 87kgs. 6'2" tall.

I ride a 6'6" MR supertwin, or a 6'0"hypto copy, or a 6'10" MR Squid.

I'm about to buy a new board.....why?......well, I'm surfing maybe twice a week and while generally fit I am finding I am getting less waves than I'd like on the 2 smaller boards and the Squid is a little large and wide for good waves.

Yeah i can paddle really hard to get more waves but then I can't surf as long.....lol. So I'm thinking moving up in volume without too much of a compromise on the boards ability on good waves.

I've done the surfing volume calculators to death and while there is a bit of variation I"m thinking of something around the 42Litre mark for better paddle power without going too big (the squid is around 50litres).

I like MR boards and in addition to trusting the shapes also believe the quality is right up there. The trouble is, the guy has a heap of designs that seem suitable to I'm after some advice.....there's the Lone Ranger, Rocket, Flying Fish, mega-twin, Stingray, Hornet .......I don't want a real Fish, or a high performance board, maybe something in between would give me the volume without needing to be too long.?
A 6'8" flying fish (not too fishy) or a 6'8" Lone Ranger have my eye at the moment. Th Stingray and Mega Twin also hold some interest with their promise of inclusion a bit more foam for their length....though I've not seen them in person.

Any advice welcome.

Newcastle beaches almost exclusively. I guess it is usually in the 2-6ft range that I'd be surfing.

Mark's range seems to have a few overlaps. Any chance you could meet him for a chat? Ask the guys in the Slimes shop.

yeah been to Slimes. Got pointed to a few different boards. If there is no other advice I'm leaning to a Lone Ranger.

A rounded pin would be nice. Like his retro single but with more fins.

Hi jeff.

i make bodyboards from my onsite factory here at home. I'd be happy to do you a really good deal if you're prepared to expand your mind and try a superior wave riding craft.

regards

bra itchy.
