Not my cup of tea, but bargain all the same.
Dear god its hideous
.

Yeah I don't like it. Looks cross between a fava bean, and one of toy clowns with the round domed bottoms you can't push over.

It's more than entirely possibly i surf wrong, and my nugget is 6'10 so will surf differently to a 6ft, but I move my feet around all the time. Yes you can't front foot it as much as a board with more foam up front, but you can still lean on the front foot, move the back up and back etc

I still need to keep reminding myself to move my back foot back as it doesn't touch the tail pad when I need it to.

That's not how they surf. The standard 6'3 allround nugget I have (still, but haven't ridden for a few years), I just used to surf it like a normal shortboard, moving my back foot from right back on the kicktail of the pad to probably just in front of the pad and all points in between and never making any conscious effort to not weight the front foot. The old Lazor Zaps - if that's what the surftech zap design is - are very back footed although again, you don't have to keep your back foot in the same place, it's just that the majority of drive comes from pushing it forward with your back foot. I had to make a fairly big adjustment to surf it, even coming off riding a nugget

The potbelly reportedly accepts a more even balance of front foot/back foot anyway, so if you're curious about how McCoys ride that might be the one to go for

Oh and the Rodgers-shaped McCoys carry a bit less volume, or so I've heard. Looking at that one it's closer to two and half inches thick than the three inches you'd normally expect on a potbelly of those dims

Edit: here we go, this is from an email reply from Geoff McCoy in 2007:

"the Pot Belly design allows for standing more evenly weighted, because of the fuller nose, for its individual length they can draw long arcs, because of the more parallel out line, for sure the 5' 10"will not paddle well as well as your 6' 3", maybe is 15 ~20% less volume, if you can deal with that you could be ok to try the 5' 10", yes the Pot Belly would be quite different to your 6' 3" nugget, the P/B when surfed off the back foot will surf quicker shorter arcs than the 6' 3""

I'd be curious to ride a McCoy just for the sake of it. But I'm not fond of really-wide tailed boards. Nor do I jam my back foot right up the rear of the board. Moreover for turning off the tail, I tend to have my foot either over the front fins, or centred between the front and rear cluster, but never over the back fin. Aesthetically I find them a very ugly looking board, and the design looks it wouldn't work for me. Who knows though, maybe I'd be suprised. One day if I see one dirt cheap i might snap it up, as if it sucks, I'll always get good resale on it.

My Rodgers shaped is 6'10" x 21 1/4" x 3 1/16. So fairly voluminous!

the big difference I found from a more 'normally' shaped board is that there is a noticeable 'slingshot' when the wave catches you - instead of a slow push forward, is 'catch... zoom'. Its quite fun, especially on weaker waves, although I suspect there is a size/power above which its no longer fun. It also is so easy to catch waves with that big tail.

I'm sure they have some interesting features given the experience of the designer.

The eight footer ? If so, it'd be magic on the points, from knee high to as big as it gets.

I'm sure I've seen that board advertised before. Looks like a lot of fun. It would've loved Cronulla point this arvo...solid.

Yeah, the psillakis.
I already have more boards than my amount of surfing can justify but that is the next style I'll get. I've been mindsurfing it all afternoon.

I've been tempted to buy it, but I'm totally covered for boards for all conditions down here. A board like that wouldnt make enough sense for the waves down this way.

Byron, Noosa, Gold Coast points, Lennox etc, it'd be epic.
