Billabong Pro Tahiti 2015

Post by foamy » Mon Aug 17, 2015 2:45 pm

It might be time to start an event specific thread.
They might get some smaller but cleaner waves tomorrow and some surfable waves the following morning. Then pretty much rubbish until a speculative stronger, longer period SW swell for the last 2 days of the waiting period.

I'm still digesting how good that Medina vs Florence heat was. Fantastic!
I'm calling it the greatest heat ever, of those heats held in short smallish inconsistent waves.

Medina has a way of taking off on his forehand that looks strange yet highly functional.

I reckon it's pretty shit. World's best surfers in worlds best waves my left nut......

More like worlds best surfers going to places that can be good and just doing the best they can with whatever comes along in an arbitrary 2 week period.

Last year had some goodness, this year margs/box was decent, the rest has been average.

Should just have all the pros parked at home and pick an epic location when swell and good winds hit.....everyone mobilise and flashmob the Fuck out of it.

Some of JBay was top quality, if at the medium size range. And Owen Wright scored two perfect heats at Cloudbreak, so the waves must have been pretty darned good.

On performance so far, most say Owen would be the favourite. So in control from deep and can get massive acceleration when required.

Yeah cloudbreak was good.... I stand corrected there. Owen ripped the bag out of it. Jbay for maybe one day/arvo was decent before old bitey came along and turned it in to the most watched surf comp of all time ever.

Yep, go mobile or give up. It's the only way surfing as a spectator sport will even approach its full potential

An amusing little blog from Matt Warshaw about the WSL commentary, and not hitting the reef.

Yep, CJ's tube ride is a quirky classic.
CJ exited the tube diffidently. I think he was wondering whether anybody was still up.
