most of the whale migration has already happened though - they are way the fcuk north of here now.

Dunno, still plenty every day going north in my neck of the woods.
Still, I would only assume a broad correlation.
Water temp might be a piece of the puzzle too. Then salmon, mullet season etc

Ok, well the front runners and the main pack is all up in Hervey Bay and points north.

Its likely that inshore GW activity during migration is related to the number of sick whales that cark it on the way. Lots of sick whales means GW's eat their fill and don't bother sniffing around the coast. Fewer weak whales and the GW posse that are following the migration start coming in shore.
Whale numbers having been growing 10% each years for the last 10 years. Lets say shark numbers are growing in lockstep with whale numbers but initially whale migrations have been comprised of younger cohorts - so the available food source drys up quickly and you then get more inshore activity and attacks. Then the whale population starts to mature and the numbers of sick whales increases - resulting in more offshore food and fewer attacks.

possibly, but this almost feels like a seasonal range extension from juvenile/sub-adult whites.

mostly fish feeders.

Evan's Head seems very, very sharky. Has theee been any serious attacks there? I can't remember

pretty sure there was an attack last year or the year before on a bloke surfing there. A white. from memory he lived, too.

Craig Ison got bit there in 2015.
he lived but was pretty badly mauled.

there was one a few years before that.

An interesting question is what happens when the 2-3 meter sharks, that are the bulk of those caught in the drumline “trial”, grow up a bit more?
Will they continue to travel the coast, or stay down south more in seal territory?

That said saw a couple of seals frolicking off woopi headland the other day.

Seals in the line up, fcuk that. Their stink travels a long way. There's a few down the coast been hanging about and it gives me the heebie jeebies, especially when they act all antsy. If they're just lolling about and sunning themselves in the line up i don't mind so much, but when they start fussing about and moving quick i always assume they know something's about. Rather not have to assume they're an early warning signal.

Bit like dumping shearer in the line up after he's grappled with a couple of tailor on the stones, got all bloody, then landed in the drink with fish blood and scales going every which way. fcuk that

Tracking suggests that once they get bigger, they travel a bit less up the coast but go south instead, down around Tassie

Only “suggest” though, there’s not enough research to really tell.

just watching the shark contractor spending alot of time fussing around the Lennox drum-line which is about 3-400 metres off the back of the Point.
Usually means a hook-up.

Blood-up and get out there son!
