The whole incident was an opportunity to show that sharks aren't indiscriminate killers. That it got caught in the leggie and dove down (away), not up to attack as shown by the tail thrashing. The media a milking this for all its worth. Killer sharks. The effect is that it gets the loony emos calling for culls and other ridiculous measures.

Meanwhile, half a world away in Arica, Chile, the bodyboarding world tour was pumping with no sharks in sight.

It's a shame no one cares about body boarding. If they did it would be more popular.

8, Kunji will be waiting for you at Bungan for the Great RS surf off, Saturday 6 June 2015. Be there.

And no, that year is not a mistake. Time to put your money where your mouths are boys and build a time machine.

Amazing how lying down makes riding such solid waves look so unimpressive. What is with that.

maybe I will take up bodyboarding, so I can ride waves like that. No way I would go near it on my thruster at my age and condition

It would be a pretty insane POV riding a wave like that with your head so close to the water, going over the ledge would be f%%ing mindblowing, especially on a clear shallow water reef.

Nah they don't give away exact locations for fear of them being vandalized or stolen. But there are/were some up near you, as they've tracked both species up to the border. Remember one bull shark was recorded way way way up a far north coast river into super brackish almost fresh water.

Spot on. Was just eyeballing Fanning if it wanted a piece of him or test bite he would be missing a foot or severed at the least.
If it was in attack mode the shark would have hit him full speed from underneath.

Wrong.

"Recent satellite tracking studies indicate that the white shark may spend considerable periods of each year in waters remote from pinniped colonies and will undertake very different predatory behaviours while doing so (Boustany et al., 2002; Bruce et al., 2006; Weng et al., 2007a; Domeier & Nasby-Lucas, 2008). Observations on how sharks behave at pinniped colonies cannot necessarily be used to infer behaviour in other habitats and around other
prey species. This may also apply to inferences about shark behaviour with respect to
attacks on humans."

Steve there used to be one at Cook Is and one at those islands off Woolli. Solitary?

That information is about 10 years out of date.
They generally put them near Grey Nurse reserves.

Not that anyone knows anything, but the Fanno encounter seemed a classic, 9 to 12 foot, juvenile, white shark, test bite scenario.

the shark looked like it wigged out harder than mick did when it got caught in his leggie.

at least that's what my uneducated eyes saw.

Braith do you advocate for the removal of all the QLD shark control measures?

Yeah, just like you never go full boustany, you should never ever ever ever get caught in Mick's leggy.
