A nice starting point for the thread. The women, as expected, seem to be surfing Cloudbreak better this year.
Sally Fitzgibbons continuing on with a perforated ear drum. Tough as nails!

Only from news footage, but the girls seem to be riding bigger boards and drawing some nice lines.

Tatiana Weston Webb is really leading the charge

A couple of great barrels

Performances to me range from amazing to looking like some not wanting anything to do with the sets

The women do seem to be surfing better this year and Sal has to be the toughest competitive surfer on the planet. She's so mentally strong.

Weston-Webb is surfing a lot better. I won't mention her arse. Very distracting.

it's really too early to tell.

But so far, I've been very impressed with the Laura Enever lines of attack.

the whole thing is gonna take a turn for the mental when this swell hits.

it's a bit south for Restaurants but that may not matter, the amount of energy being hurled at Fiji will probably overcome any issues with swell angle.

it'll be way too big at Cloudbreak, but it'll be line ball on the second day. the boys who go early will be freaking out.

I don't think it will be anywhere near that big.
probs ten-12 foot at CB. Very far from the 15-20ft madness of 2012.
Nowhere near maxing out.

Last year, Sally was the only one who turned up a week early. She won the event.
Surprisingly to local observers, about all the other women last year arrived just in time for day one. They mostly struggled.
This year, Laura Enever has been the only one, I think, who arrived a couple of weeks early. Surprise surprise, as you say, she is surfing some great lines.

btw, I think WSL is correct if they start a day early on Sat, because I think the swell will drop away a little quicker than expected over the weekend. They run Sat and then they have Sun as a backup chicken if it does linger longer.

also the upcoming Tasman sea swells , first one looks a bit how ya going so they'll be able to pick the eyes out of it and finish on the much stronger second pulse.

that was an anti-climax. I turned on this morning and sat through a ten minute lull before switching off, then came home to find it finished for the day. Looked a bit underwhelming.

Yes, anyone (Nick) know why the feck they finished the girls today when she's all systems go tomorrow?

Maybe WSL should webcast the mens free surf tomorrow that all the men pros will be salivating over!!!

Surely the men didn't tell KP to get the womens over and done with just so they could free surf it to themselves tomorrow?
