Is that the equivalent of, say, a Brazilian footballer who learns his (or her, you sexist cnuts) craft using sub-standard equipment in sub-standard conditions and then he (or she) absolutely canes it when he (or she) gets Lennox at 4-6' on some Pyzel thing?

Thought not.

Well at least you've been using the right equipment all these years Leeg. 5'10" x 19" x 1 and seven eighths. Nails it.

actually on the long long range there's something a bit serious for Tahiti
I don't see anything except a blocking high in the worst possible position.

gunna be 10 foot at least on this next swell.

Or maybe they oughta move the whole thing to Cloudbreak and make up for the ancient humiliation of the Volcom Pro

looks like a better forecast now, a mixed bag of weird swells but they'll get it done.

That the one where the pros didn’t have the right boards so couldn’t go out?
But a whole bunch of other guys were right there with the right boards?

Yep, Loofy and Iggy trading tow in duties. Shamed the CT that day.

That’s the one when the organisers called it off for the day then 30 big wave guys and a quarter of the tour charged it.

The wind was a bit wrong and then went very right.

The whole thing was held up as an example of pro surfers being chicken shit which I thought was a very cheap shot taken by people who wouldn’t ride waves a quarter that size.

Correction, one eighth that size.

I saw it mostly held up as an example of a sport and it's prize athletes who didn't have a clue.

I mean, that swell was on the charts for at least a week and both organisers and surfers seemed woefully underprepared when it hit.

Total bush league stuff.

Agree with Shearer here.

And Nick, it wasn't a cheap shot from people calling them sooks. What are professional surfers?

Wouldn't it be professional to take appropriate boards to surf big waves a t Cloudbreak when every forecaster saw it coming?

Yes it was a cheap shot. The surfers didn't make the decision to pull it. A number of them went out and surfed that afternoon. Nobody here was on the spot, watching the wind distort the lineup as it did in the hour before the event was pulled.

Friends of mine have died on days not totally dissimilar to that, I'll give people a break on it any day of the week.

That logic makes no sense.

6-10ft Pipeline/Backdoor is the most dangerous wave in the world.

Yet no Pipe comp is going to be cancelled due to safety reasons at that size.

Surfers weren't prepared for it, mostly.

It was a bad look and tremendously unprofessional.

They could have put the comp on hold for an hour to see what the wind did.
