For a little while I worked directly for a company extracting gas from offshore formations just west of Bass Strait. The offshore rig and onshore processing plant are relatively new, but require continual maintenance. They're never too far from a potentially disasterous fcukup

The scale of potential extraction from the Bight is massive. Infrastructure will be built as cheaply as possible with second rate steel sourced from China. Within 10 years of commissioning, maintenance will be a serious issue. The most challenging part of this is the high probability facilities will be sold, perhaps more than once. The buyer brings along their own operating and maintenance protocols and there is real likelihood of confusion and lost information

I have a couple of Aussie mates in Norway and will encourage them to raise their voices

Most big companies regard maintenance of high risk facilities as a money drain. Like, “sure, it could go horribly wrong but it hasn’t for decades so we’ll cut the maintenance budget a little more”. While not an oil rig, i have seen that attitude become standard where I work. Especially since the GFC

Heath Joske on Equinor. My gut feeling, based on having a few friends in the maritime industry, is that drilling will go ahead, not by BP for now but there will be others once Statoil / Equinor hit the jackpot. There are certain morons here in SA who are pro oil drilling in the bight, like a mayor on Kangaroo Island who is quite vocal about the benefits e.g. jobs etc. and the usual uneducated guff. Not that he has any say in the matter but he gets press. https://youtu.be/p8eU7idBtZw

Fanno and Parko together at Kirra, perhaps today. How did Fanno make it out of that modest-sized tube? Not as easy as he makes it look.

I was getting ready to go out and every knob was talking about it. It’s days like today that I hate the GC whilst loving it.

Yes its time to talk swell size. Hodaddy posted a link for Noosa saying it was 4~6 ft and crowded. Thats what I would call it from the youtube video.

Maybe only just 6ft on the biggest sets at the pot where it jacks up.

I thought 5 foot was still in Iggy's scale?
Lennox is 7-9 foot today.
