Re: Just general surfing stuff
How’s your fitness these days steve? I’ve heard that once you get to your age it can be quite an alarming rate of attrition unless you keep your foot on the pedal. Maybe time to swallow your pride and introduce some weight bearing cardio to strengthen those old bones

steve, nearly every post on realsurf is baited to one degree or other. We all know this, so please knock off the arms aloft triumphalism and answer the question

Re: Just general surfing stuff
without bragging, best it's ever been Godsave.
I got the bedrock of 175chins (75 weighted) per week, plus push-ups , plus deadlifts, kettlebell swings and added weighted cossack squats for ankle strength/mobility.
that added a lot of mobility and strength to my ankles/feet and made my surfing feel so much better.
we had a good late winter/spring so the surfing fitness got right up there too.
Think I'll run it down again now though and change tack. Surf season is over and my motivation to surf slop as the summer cube monkey crowds descend is very low.
Gunna fit out my SUP for fishing and spend a lot of time sup fishing. which is lot of low impact/low endurance exercise.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
we only really got one big swell this winter and I had a crack at it ....not very successfully. even on a nine footer out near the shipping channel it was mostly hours of paddling for no reward.
still, no one out. Guess the cardio warriors had other things on that day.

Cardio isn’t something to be feared, steve. I know it’s hard at first and I can understand why you construct such elaborate defences against doing any but honestly stick with it for a month and it does get easier

No, I don't fear it.
it's just boring and poor bang for buck.
I might do a bit more bike riding this spring.
got a little project in mind for the next board test.
surfing with no car travel whatsoever, only surf waves I can walk or ride to.

Those rear mounted board carriers look ok although probably the best solution would be to modify one of the single wheel kid trailers that you can take off road. Strong money though

the bike, I might add, which I picked up off the side of the road for free in Byron Bay last year and goes great.
Cranked and the other bike snobs would probably turn their nose up at it.

Yeah but that’s the absolute shittest solution.
Your bike is fine. It’s a 600 dollar perfectly acceptable commuter

You can get a basic cargo trailer for about 30 quid which will do the job but I would look on eBay for a second hand Burley or Trek gobug or something and strip off the passenger parts to give a super lightweight chassis

Re: Just general surfing stuff
it's easy and requires no extra equipment, no extra purchases no extra carbon intensive activities like our profligate baby boomer friends.
I just a pick a board up, get on the bike and ride it to the beach.
I don't need that extra shitt.
it's about stripping it back.

I can give you a walkthrough on how to attach it if that’s what’s bothering you. You don’t even need tools for the better ones
