You aren’t the room Yuke You are just a wonky cafe table with a missing rubber pad on the end of one leg.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Seems like the Lennox boys finally took my advice and stopped softcocking. About time.

It's a fascinating topic. Lennox isn't the only flashpoint. It's hand in hand with population growth and the continuing encroachment on what we have considered to be sacred coastal places. I note there are some pretty sizeable developments proposed for the Lennox hinterland, just as there are for the "Surf Coast" near Bells and in a few other places of similar ilk. You can talk down a local landowner the way Don Munro did at Lennox, but how do you manage thousands of new residents? Surfing reserves won't do it.

Nick, do you have an opinion on the future of surfing numbers in Australia?
The average age of surfers is getting older. Partly its just the natural maturation of the sport.
The ageing of the average surfer in the lineup being a little offset by more young women taking up the activity and more young overseas visitors.

Yeah, it's the younger women that are the problem, the old guys keep coming back for an eyefull

I think my opinion doesn't count for much in the face of demographic change.

Waiting for the ABS to post its latest sport and rec stats, but I suspect they will show a continuation of the trend of the past 20 years or so, ie an aging of the surf population. The last report, from 2011/12, suggested there were more surfers over 55 than under 15, and way more over 45 than under 25. The core is 35/45. Total is 226,000 of a total beachgoing population of about 3.5 million.

The big unstated figure is surf tourists, ie surfers in Australia who are not Australian citizens.

Euro Surfers are out of control....people don't realise they have their own websites and surfcamps.....catering to the learner/intermediate. They have all the gear.....the lingo....but no attitude.

:)
Yeh pretty much mature age recruits (male and female) together with older retiring age, both of which didn't exist in the 70s would explain the aging population I think.
