I actually started writing it in June before Fiji, then binned it.
Christmas Eve I got a debt collectors notice from an parking fine I accrued during the Quik comp and had hoped might disappear.
This precipitated action on the my top 20 and a publisher was found.
I've now paid the debt collector and all is well.

And a back and forth qtsq had with mullet indicated that mullet was actually, in real life, el rancho.
I just now assume everyone on realsurf is on there under one secret guise or another.

Yes mullet is our late lamented el rancho. Beachgrit's OK in small doses, particularly if steve's stuff is up there or Derek and Clive are doing better than just phoning it in. Ultimately a bit too seppo for my tastes though

Sorry to piss on the parade but I am not in agreement with the general consensus about either article. Sure you can both put a sentence together but as for subject matter - find something of interest to write about. Complete fluff, a waste of time and energy.
Apart from shearers bit on slater, that was pretty good.

Writing regular columns on a specialist topic is reasonably enjoyable, the difficult thing is thinking of a new topic.
Drailed, I'm sure the lads would welcome some good story ideas.
Can you come up with five that would have a general surfer interest and are not too shopworn?
Note: the travel budget is zero.

"..I could feel the heighten sense of fear in the carpark, the nervous chatter embraced the dawn like a plague of locusts descending on a once fertile land. I suited up and advanced past returning soldiers who'd battled valiantly against a superior enemy. Head bowed in mock prayer I looked up and 2ft wind swept Maroubra greeted me like only a beast could. Unfazed I mounted my steed and galloped into the belly of the beast"

Haven't read Steve's BG yet but am hoping to see Dionysian hand jive at least once in the opus.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Davros should be editor of BG, he's just outlined their agenda for the first half of the new year.

The triteness is the charm.......thats the base level you can hit high or low.
Nice suggestions Dav. My surfwriting worldview is buddhist, in the sense that everything is connected, surfing is just one thing humans do and it contains within it everything human that humans do. Therefore everything is fair game to be discussed, digressed upon and woven in. The mechanical action of surfing is really only of interest to the individual participant, the phenomenology I'm not sure about.........I'd love to get a take on the detailed phenomenology of Beany, or GSTQ.
