Re: Just general surfing stuff
I think shapers have a new clip in box system for fcs1 fins.
I can’t understand how that will work.

Right, I've looked at the video, have been looking for real world reviews. Somebody on Reddit said that they were shit, lost a fin. FCS is only doing this design to save a patent or something.Yuke Hunt wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 8:52 amThey still have the pin at the front of the fin and removal requires lifting the base forward, so it'd be difficult (but not impossible) to lose a fin.offshore1 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 7:38 amI'm a little skeptical, don't want to lose a fin.Yuke Hunt wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 7:09 amSame technology as the FCS 2 system, which can be knocked out with difficulty.offshore1 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 11:50 pmWhat's the deal with FCS Tool less fins, anybody try them yet?

Seems to me that they could come out too easily.
Heres a video showing the process ...

Where's Nick when you need him?
Re: Just general surfing stuff
I had one of those FCS2 single fins a while ago. Don’t have the board anymore but the fin Worked fine, easy to fit, easy to adjust.
You probably won’t want to surf over too-shallow reef though, as I could see it would be pretty easy to knock the fin out without a screw holding it in.same with FCS2 thruster or quad sets, they’ll Knock out if you run them into reef.
If you have hesitations then just stick with the old style fin boxes, at least the FCS 2 retro-fits and you can always put an older style fin back in

I'm going to give it a shot .
An old friend of mine came to visit and gave me and the missus t-shirts, which we really don't need. Traded them (plus some cash) for one of these fins. Had some second thoughts, sounds like it'll be OK.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Isn't the fin being knocked out or snapping off one of the main points of FCS?
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Great. Now I'm more undecided than an IDF helicopter gunner over a Jewish music festival.
Re: Just general surfing stuff
Just use it. Any force capable of knocking the fin out of the box would be comparable to the force of destroying the fin box also if the fin was fixed with a screw. Youd be better off losing the fin than ruining your board.

Years ago, I got in trouble from boo for being too soon with a bushfire joke. He might be coming for you!

Only when you're at the cabin, and it's a drive. You're safe.
My point was the one Iggy made - all removable fins are supposed to snap or come out to avoid greater damage to the board.
So stop stressing about it and use it. Especially as they were almost free.

Re: Just general surfing stuff
The original FCS duel tab fin system will snap out far easier than futures or FCS 2. Futures will more often than not damage the box installation and board. For the FCS 2 fin to come out it needs to be levered from behind, so an impact on the front or side can and will damage the board.
The inventor of the FCS system was a surfboard sander, who's inspiration was more to do with making it easier to finish sand a board ... the upside of his little invention was making it far easier to travel with surfboards. Not to mention the introduction of a whole new money spinning side show, the surfboard fin industry, which is a pretty much a license to print money.

Wasn't free, more like half price using the t shirt credits: $90 -$40 = 50 bucks. Expensive as fcuk.
No worries though, I'm keeping it.

They have the same discount for everyone if you go on their site anyway
Re: Just general surfing stuff
So sorry to hear of your loss, Buddy ... if I see any of those gay single tab JM's floating around I'll let you know.
I purchased a set of large a while back and the drive was off the charts, but they were a little too directional for the Kneeboard, so I re-foiled the front and rear fins until they were dialed in ... I may have gone a little bit far. They're still pretty good, but I was happy to snap up another set. The new ones are medium, so when I get back from Wait Awhile they'll be first cab off the rank.
I have a shit tonne of fins, duel tabs, so if you're keen to try something different or almost normal, just holler.
