Looking good at J Bay. Go hard off the top all the time shits me though and a lot of tubes are ignored. It’s a down the line wave.
A few goofies were hammering it though.

Cranked and his early adoption strategy has been vindicated.

Surfline now includes kilojoules in their forecast along with wave height and period.

Looks like a few issues with it. It appears that the energy determination is based on the open ocean swell size, not the surf size estimated for each inshore location. E.g similar energy forecast for Ulus and more sheltered spots.

The locals and Rarotongan regulars all used Kj as a tool over there.

Yep.
My mate who was over there had already adopted it by the time I got there.

Really? The MHL buoys have had energy spectra for a few years.

kJs are in the buoy data here on Surfline but not the forecast.

I'm working on a surf modeling project at the moment and the automated feed was averaging 2 different swell directions (with different size and period), and coming back with an average swell from a direction that's completely blocked by an island.

It does vary eg currently

Kuta beach 2176, Outside Corner 3062, Karamas 2716, Lacerations 2244, Medewi 1536, etc

I don't know what it means. Just wondering what the kJs where when my mate was high and nearly dry at Lacerations. 5 ft long period set. He was failing miserably at getting out of harm's way. Trying to run, no booties, leggy catching the reef. Lacerations is an apt name

He got me back with a peroxide treatment after a surf at Racetracks a week or so later

Yeah, I've just never heard it referenced by anyone.

It's quite a handy quick guide but it doesn't measure kJ.

Do they only have surf-forecast for f/casting tools?

Not sure. That was probably the main one people looked at unless reading the charts themselves.
But they definitely referred to the kJ with more importance than the the feet reading on the models.

Did you find it a useful metric?

What complete balderdash.

I wish I had that amount of time in my hands to come up with that.
