here's another shot of the rock outcrop to give an idea of its size. it's fun to sit at our place and watch the spray fly up when winter waves are breaking on the other side.

The beach at Hoi An doesn't have anything like our rock outcrop. It's near the southern end of the long straight flat beach that stretches 30km from the Son Tra peninsula at Danang to the Thu Bon rivermouth, and the beachside properties there are built on sand. I guess that makes that them more vulnerable to erosion than we are on our rocky coastline.

Sat on the beach at Danang for a few days looking at the tiny waves there. Thinking should I hire one of the boards from the shop a few blocks back from the beach and go for a paddle. Ultimately it was just too lame to bother. Nice beach though.
How crazy are those little round basket boats.

Then come back the next day and tried to convince yourself it's maybe got bigger?
I guess you don't do that. Busy man.
In fact had almost exactly the same thoughts yesterday. Went for a bit of a run up to the north end. I was thinking was it worth going out if I had a softboard. Was it worth going home to get one?
Then I saw someone has put a few loaners on the railings up there.
I thought maybe I should grab one and have a paddle. Then I decided I couldn't be bothered.
Better today. Had an okay surf.

Idle thoughts Steve. You have to understand this was taking place in between swims on a deck chair under a palm frond beach awning with a cold drink. It's definitely in the could I be bothered......at least I could say I had a surf here category.

Danang was a bit like that actually. I was going to meet friends in Hanoi and just spent a few days laying on the beach and checking out the resident expats guzzling beer in local bars. It would be an easy place to live and work in.
HoiAn was pretty good but a bit of a tourist trap.
