Re: Fiji 2014
Just while you're there and on the warpath, is there anything else women should be discouraged from doing in the Braithwaite world view?
So they can surf small waves and go shopping but not CB or Restaurants. What about politics or blog writing? We don't want to set the poor darlings up to fail like they did last time.
They can play tennis because of the sexy outfits...any other sports they shouldn't be doing because of their lack of size, strength etc etc?
Just asking for a friend.

Re: Fiji 2014
Shearer you are still failing to appreciate the point that to win a world title the women do not need to be proficient in heavy surf.
You are labouring on their so called lack of professionalism and preparation, yet are failing to recognise the remaining 90% of the tour is held in not particularly heavy waves. It's probably a conscious choice as much as anything and will definitely not change until the tour locations change.
Having said all that, I think a lot of them performed credibly.
A few didn't but I also remember a number of surfers in the men's either not catching a wave or maybe 1 or 2 small ones in heavy Tahiti a few years ago.
In my opinion, the men not being prepared to surf 20 ft Cloudbreak because they didn't have the right boards (the official explanation) even though plenty of other guys did, including the boat driver for christs sake, represents a genuine lack of preparation and is a massive embarrassment

I agree with you on that LB.
Cloudbreak and Honolua Bay. The title this year is there for the taking for a woman who can figure out reef breaks.

Re: Fiji 2014
Just on the scores being low in the final - I think too much is being read into that. The wind turned on shore just prior to the final and wave quality deteriorated. Apart from Steph falling on one wave I don't recall any waves were bombed and I don't recall any waves being let go which had great scoring potential. Which just came off a Rio mens final with a 13 and a 10 so a couple of 9's is hardly ball park different. If conditions had stayed as they were I'm sure scores of 15 plus would have followed. After all Sal was consistently putting in scores around this mark.
Hopefully the mens gets a start tomorrow. Given tge conditions I've subbed out the Bede and added back Kolohe for my FS team.

As soon as shearer devises his scale of sexism I'll calm down. There must be a scale.tonks wrote:Can everyone just calm the fcuk down?!
While I admit, what I'm saying is sexist. I feel that would be at the lower end of sexism, while the taliban who've suppressed, beaten, tortured, humiliated and raped women systematically for hundreds of years are quite possibly at the upper end.

Can people please not use the term 'brand'.

Re: Fiji 2014
jesus h christ. maybe leave the sexism scale creation to the people affected by it, ie women.
of whom none prowl these halls. and sneakily I wonder how many of us are relieved by that fact.
so onward yet sadly downward into the men's event. I bet Laird wont be around for this one.
I reckon anyone whos laid a wager on this event is gonna lose.

get outta here! Here, is no place for common sense or reason.Nick Carroll wrote:jesus h christ. maybe leave the sexism scale creation to the people affected by it, ie women.
The men's event is about to go dire, I think. Can cloudbreak even break under 4-foot? They were saying last year on one particular day, this is the smallest you can surf it, and it was 4ft and sectiony as anything. The wave was kinda broken up into about 5 peaks ,each peak at the end of an unmakeable section. It was more like a beachie.
A goofy will win it.

I don't know whether to hug you or kick you in the nutz Braithy. I'm sorry for comparing your mild flavour of sexism with the Taliban fully fledged version. It was an overreach said in jest.

Depending on swell direction Cloudy would have to be 8ft+ for restaurants to be 4ft. Restaurants will only be good for snorkelling the entire men's waiting period.
